Can a 400BBM w/cheap aluminum heads compete/dominate against the street LS?

The slant six has one head.

Will you be taking your car to MITP? They have a race category, I have always thought about taking the Cuda but it is just not pretty, just functional.
There is an entire CULT Following of fast ugly cars, it evolved/branched off into ratrods. You will be cool. This isn’t like the clicks in grade school with the best dressed kids-nobody (relatively) has these cars, and even those that do have the common-CRAP Chevies & mustangs, not original, more exotic cars.
Brother, YOU are the cool kid now. Don’t give a truck about some jealous pansy and his mouth. Even Rumblefish had to educate some MORON about the type of engine a guy had because the moron ran his mouth. Those fools should not have your ear, EVER!

Ya I don't know. I just use 110 out of the can. The way I figure it's good insurance and if I do have to put some pump gas in it I don't have to worry. It's just not that big a deal for the amount of street miles driven. Pump premium is like $3.20 a gal. and 110 is about 65 - $70 for 5 so if you run it 50/50 it comes out to approx. $8.50 a gal. Not to bad for a tank of race fuel. The first tank full is the killer after that it's not to bad.
Sir,
remember AVgas has paraffin, which creates carbon deposits in the chamber and onto the piston heads.
RRR says revving up the engine hot burns that up. I bet water injection would help too.

I believe enough carbon buildup would add heat, perhaps uneven heat in the chamber-potentially creating opportunities for detonation.

Well said good Sir! I just get tired of listening to all the haters on my Cuda. It has 73 tail panel because I like round tailights, the whole front of car is fiberglass including the dash! Toggle switch of course, nose is from a 70s mold because I like the 1970, grill and fenders are 71 cuz I like the gills! Cal trac and a stroked 440 running mega squirt EFI. Typicall fiberglass cracks all over front from hard landings and I painted it in our barn. Hosed the hung some tarps, hosed the place down and rocked me some Sublime! Steering wheel gets unceremoniously tossed on dash, every show I have ever taken it to just to show folks the other side of our hobby, I get bombarded with the “ how could you do that to a Cuda?” My standard reply is.. thats why your key don’t fit!

Planning BBM purpose/capability versus investment.

Competing against 6.2 & 408ci LS strokers, LS7’s

What would it take to/can a 400BBM Compete against other well-sorted LS street engines?

thanks for your consideration!/time!!
No. LS cylinder heads are awesome. sorry.

You want butt ugly and ruthlessly efficient here ya go. Toggle switch dash, reference tape on steering wheel, engine bay black with EFI on a stroked 440! I love this car! It has eaten its share of LS rigs, there is always someone quicker but in the end our record against LS platform is pretty good. A lot of guys out here have the HP but can’t get it on the ground. I am only at 630HP and often times at a disadvantage with regard to HP but if your car is sorted out it sure helps. You have to make a lot of mistakes to get it sorted out!

Why? Planning the most power on a budget. Perhaps iron906 or 346 heads would get more flow than entry level ($550) assembled aluminum heads that are then ported.
Because not all OE heads are created equal or port out equally. Then there is the variable of valve size choices and there dimensions. So let’s start at the beginning.

I’ll skip purchasing the OE heads cost and assume you or someone else reading has a set on there engine now. The cost of rebuilding and porting an iron head will more than likely be more expensive than an aluminum head. The condition of the head is a variable to start with and what’s done to it is another variable. Then add the porters cost.

IF you purchase a set of TF or other heads of a good known reliable and trust worthy source for there quality and air flow reports, it will more than likely be the best and most cost effective way to simply bolt on power.

You already have the heads now BUT porting them may not be the cost effective route vs a reputable set of CNC heads OOTB. Something like a Black Friday sale and then worked on would more than likely play into your favor.

Just look back to the multiple “C” program I listed earlier.

Not sure of this year's schedule. Here in Minnesota it's still too cold. Will be for the next month. At minimum.

My take on it is........ don’t worry about what everyone else thinks.

Come up with a plan....... build it...... install it...... see how it all shakes out.

There will be some LS builds that are slower, some that are faster.
Just like everything thing else out there.

The only way to really learn how this stuff works is to actually build them.

^ yep.
also, that article that IQ52 posted had some builds that were 400ci, making alot of power too. No details but goes to show you can make some power without the stroker crank. get the heads done right and find a piston that will give you decent compression...

Speed disaster 4.25 crank

Mostly...the heads are where your problem is. Porting isn't cheap.
CID is cheaper.
451 LD with decent heads will dust a 408 ls...but in what..? A sleeper race car? bone stock? Neon ground effects and mixed up bolt ons by a teenager...?

Imo/ime A good small block 410 will put a hurting on them when setup right... but pick where. Light to light. Freeway or .. cause you cannot have it all or cheaply at least .

They also did a low compression 400 build that was quite impressive.
