Probably gonna offend some people, but here it is...
YOU ARE NOT GOING TO RETIRE OFF SELLING MOPAR PARTS!!!
Look, I'm a really laid back guy. Like, really calm and accepting of most people. But I gotta say, I just don't get some of the posts that I'm seeing where a member is asking OUTRAGEOUS money for a car part (usually a new member, but I digress).
$400 for a grill, $500 for an air cleaner, $1000 for seats, $1500 for fenders.
There are probably 2 or 3 guys on FABO that have enough parts, that if they sold everything, they'd make $80-$100K. But, guess what, that's still not retirement level cash.
There is ZERO sense in letting these parts waste away in your garage/shop/barn/attic, when they could be used on a running & driving car.
Now, I'm not staying to give your stuff away for nothing. I'm just saying charge a reasonable price, let the buyer get the part on his/her car, and you go grab a nice steak dinner.
Yeah, yeah, I know... "these are original MOPAR parts" & "you can't find this stuff anywhere". But that just proves my point. Ma MOPAR did not produce these parts to sit on a shelf somewhere and not be on the road.
We're supposed to be a community of MOPAR lovers that help each other out, not gouge one and other over a piece of 50 year old tin. And there are some great members who sell stuff cheap. A HUGE shout out to them!
Before you roll your eyes/shake your head, I do practice what I preach. Take a look at my sales ads. I never ask a ridiculous amount for anything. As a matter of fact, I've sent out parts and only asked the buyer to cover the shipping. And when I'm done my build, I'll be hooking up members with whatever I have left over.
Listen, 2020 sucked! Let's make 2021 a great year for FABO members and get them the parts they need to get their rides on the road.

I've GIVEN away a lot of stuff in the past year or two. When I put up a GOOD FULLY FUNCTIONAL 6 Valiant/Barracuda instrument cluster and kept lowering the price to 100 shipped and everybody wanted it for nuthin, that pissed me off to the point I'll not sell anything on here anymore. In fact, I just pitched that cluster in with the garbage today. It's in the back of the truck waitin to go to the dump tomorrow.....so your dilemma works both ways.

No, you got it wrong my man. People ARE retiring off it. Can you imagine how good your ego feels when you see all those parts sitting in the corner collecting dust and you know people can use them but you’d rather just keep buying them up so nobody can have them. It’s the equivalent to loving the sound of your own voice and the smell of your own farts. You just need to get more money to help pad their retirement(boredom). I’ll throw it all in the dumpster before I help anyone with anything anymore. I’ve learned more negative stuff about how mopar people function(hoarding parts they clearly don’t need, claiming “it’s for a future project but they’re on their last leg, literally. Back stabbing, whining when they dont get a part they figured “they deserved”. Have fun trying to get what you need for your project.

A.H

Lol, I have said this a lot before, but you may or may not be surprised at how many fabo members dont give a rats *** about you or me or anyone on here. The ONLY reason they are here is to snag good deals and to flip. Very rarely do they contribute whether its advice or knowledge base, or show their project.
I have GIVEN stuff away, as well as contributed to fundraisers for less fortunate. You never see these members helping each other out. It's all about $$.
Oh but dont name names cuz that thread will be deleted.
Heck a member here 99% of the time is 1st to buy any cuda stuff. It got to the point that the pic in the original for sale ad was reused in THEIR ad, THE SAME DAY it was originally posted for sale. They hadn't even received the part yet lmao.

It's funny Steve and really not funny at the same time.

On the "flip" side, I have also had some members lowball the **** outta some of my stuff. I've started tossing **** too. So tired of nickel/dime bs'rs.
I should list my LD340 for $100 and ignore everyone

The market dictates what stuff is worth. It's not like a magical wizard sits and tells people what stuff is worth.

I recently went on a selling campaign because I realized I had several early A parts that I'm never going to use.

I had a pair of buckets that I marked for 4 hundred because that's what i paid for them in 2017. They didn't move so I marked them down to 250 because i wanted to move them. They sold and now going in someone's car. I sold some fenders that I could have probably got more money for than I did because the interest and speed they sold was the market signal they were worth more, but oh well, now I have room in the shed and I got enough cash out to buy some other parts for my project.

I'm finding that shipping big items is a royal pain in the *** but so rewarding when the overweight ratty box is dropped off at fed ex and on the way out of your life to turn and recieve another ratty box with someone else's useless **** to entertain for awhile.

LOL now that's funny.

I do normally make an offer or ask for a best price, but no way will I offer 50 bucks for something advertised for 200. That's just insulting. We live on social security though, so I have to make concessions, or give up the hobby.

Well said

WELL SAID everyone!

Yes, some of us do feel like Hoarders and its because we always need the parts we sell or give away!

I prefer to give stuff to Moparmates irrespective of what their intentions are?
I gave a set of mint ported 906 heads to my Dart mate, he then complained it cost $400 to put valves and springs in them...
He didn't use them and then sold them at a loss for $300, go figure?

Best place to sell is on Ebay, you get what the folks wanna spend 'on the day'.
Set a reserve and if it don't make that price then its either the wrong time or too pricey???

Saw a vid on POOtube where the guy had enough parts to open a warehouse for Moparts!!!

He don't care about you or me, he is happy 'cos he's got everything and you don't...:realcrazy::realcrazy::realcrazy:

He will pass away and all his stuff will get shared out again, but it will be TOO LATE by then...:wtf:

I’ve gotten some really nice parts from some very nice folks on FABO and made some good connections. It’s like everything in life, do your homework, buy what is reasonable to you and ignore the foolishness. I’ve wanted a dual snorkel for one of my Dusters but ain’t no way I am coughing 6 bills for it. That’s the market, just not my market!

Agree with all the above , I `ve always found better prices than the two biggest sellers on here , one had a $100 dollar mark up on an electrical part .
Some really stupid other prices from time to time .
Even gave a perfect 440 stock forged crank to a guy for the shipping price of $80 , didnt even get a thank you out of it !
Shipping prices aint helping either, most dont want to pay that much !

When I'm junkyard hopping I find stuff for myself. And stuff I know others could use. That stuff i 0ost up on here. I try to price my stuff reasonably. I am getting to the point of going through the shelves and clearing out stuff and **** canning it now.

Man I've been in this Hobby close to 40 years. Almost every year things go up.
They aren't making original or NOS items any longer. I think most peps on here
do a really good job of helping others out. Of course there are a few bad apples.
But, hey this is America you do have the option of looking where you want.

I've been very fortunate. I've put next to nothing prices on things I want to get out of my way with shipping included in the cost and most members will throw a few $ extra. I have found that helping other people sale parts can be a whole different kind of difficult, though.

I think it's the old "nice to have vs need to have". Anyone who actually needs a part for their build has no problem paying a fair and reasonable price for something. I have found that lowballing comes when people want to "add" to their collection. I know when I sell household stuff locally, I normally put a small price on it to keep the hoarders away. More often than not, I end up giving it to the person for free when they show up.

Funny, you don’t sound laid back?

If someone wants a high price for their parts (or car) I just chuckle and cruise on by. They are the ones that aren't selling the stuff. THey usually come down in price and end up selling for a reasonable price anyway.

I agree with most of this as well. I see both sides. If I'm selling, it's because I'm cleaning house and need the space. I need the space more than I need the part. Part's got to go. I have a 6.1 Hemi in that status. Got it, found a 6.4, so the 6.1 gots to go. Not hurting to sell, but it's for sale.

If I need a part, I usually pay what the seller is asking, but sometimes I'll try to haggle. i don't push too hard though. If I offer a price and they reject it, then I have a choice, take it, or leave it. No butt hurt involved.

if I need a part that I KNOW I NEED and it's rare, like oh I dunno, a windshield frame for an E-Body Vert... yeah, no haggling. I bought that because I need it and I paid handsomely for it. Life's a ***** sometimes.

Am I a hoarder because I buy things I don't absolutely need right then and there? Nope, I have kids who will use this stuff and inherit my cuda vert (if I'm not buried in it) so I like to buy things I think are interesting to me and things I think might be hard to find at some point. Cuz they'll be needed. I buy extra's at the junk yard when I can. I got a few sets of 8-3/4 shock plates and small block elec dizzy's for a good price. Snag. From a functional standpoint, I can set the dizzy's up differently and play around. Not rot on the shelf. Shock plates I need for the cuda and my son's valiant. Again, not going to rot.

Part of the problem for me, is I don't have the local MoPar connections like I did in CO. South TX just seems like everyone hides in their garages or something. So there isn't a whole lot of horse trading going on where I am. If I'm wrong, for the love of all that is holy, make yourself known. I can't stand the tuners and LS's around here !!! LOL...

Anyway, that's my rambling....

As most everyone here knows , I sell a lot of parts here. I don't think I'm gouging people on the price I ask. Heres what most people don't realize. I drive across the state to look at the parts hoard someone has for sale. Last instance was 4 hours away. 2 trips. Had to rent a 26 ft UHAUL for 2 days 2 different times. Fuel to drive that big *** truck 4 hours 2 weeks of sifting through all the garbage and scrap. Getting rid of all that. Trying to figure out what all the parts are and if any good to sell to the members here needing parts for their cars and projects. Then if someone wants the parts you have to get shipping quotes 3 or 4 times to make the deal possible and reasonable for the buyer. Buy shipping materials that no one wants to pay for. I still sell this stuff at a very good price I believe by all the repeat buyers I have. I am retired, which is why I can do this , It gives me something MOPAR to do, I don't know all there is to know about mopars tech but when ever I can I offer up what I know. Usually get shot down or corrected, so now I just stay out of the information zone! I'll leave that to the Officials!

^^this

I'm here to get advice when needed and buy items for my project. If I find something I feel is overpriced, I just move along.

Lots of good people here for which I am grateful.

I have scored a few "deals" on here, meaning I was willing to pay what the seller asked for the item in question, I have never been much of a haggler and if I do I am careful not to insult the seller. I have seen though if something is priced high no one will make an offer ,then the seller starts dropping price etc. Sometimes no one at that point in time needs that part so Id would then pull it and list it again later.

thanks for what you do on the parts side, and as for info theres always an arguement LOL! What I see in the tech info side is, people will go after the "tear the engine down its internal" based off what the y read, i am a retired tech and I have learned you do some testing/checking/diagnosing before you $tart tearing thing$ down...:)

do you know that an "arcing" spark plug wire will sound like an exhaust leak for example?
