year one, problems, anyone know this?

Maybe he's so pissed he's at a loss for words and took a time out! I will say I have used year one for a couple of purchases lately and I'm not impressed $12 postage for a couple of stickers, a badge that broke on installation another 12.50 or so in postage. I used to be a fan and bought a lot of parts from them but I'll use them as a last resort now.

I know most of their stuff is overpriced, going back to the early 90's, so that's been a long time problem. But, they used to be the only game in town.

:wtf:

Why anyone would use them is beyond me, they mfg absolutely zero stuff and their attitude when I spoke to them was like their prices.....ridiculous.
Lol look at their shitty door panels. Cant even cut a fn hole for the window crank.....
As mentioned, LAST RESORT, or for a harness.

I have bought very little from them over the years, but I did stop by for a visit when they were brand new. I had a business trip to Atlanta (Marietta)in Feb. 1985. Had some time to kill the afternoon I got there. It was cool to see the start of resto parts coming on the scene.

Agree Jim, I still have their catalog from 1987 and the fax order sheets. They were the ONLY game in town for many years. I also recently helped Kevin King get their oval Airgrabber/Ramcharger air filter to as correct to OE that is available on the market.

Well, I think it is fair to say that the shipping department is definitely a profit center at Year One. When I was completely restoring my 69 Barracuda several years ago, I signed up for the advertising Emails from Classic Industries. Their shipping isn't cheap, but it was less than Year One. Plus, I got 20-25% off on everything Emails all the time.

I'm not defending Year One as I have never purchased from them.

To be fair and all else aside, are high shipping costs the attributable to the shippers(UPS, USPS, FEDEX, etc.) or is Year One making a profit from shipping?

As discussed in other FABO/FBBO/FEBO posts, IMO, high shipping costs can attributed to subsidies given to Amazon and others large companies via lower shipping rates at our expense

Where paper is generated, there should be a profit. I worked for a Caterpillar dealer. We made money on shipping. I understand that, for me it was shitty attitude and shitty "looking" door panels. After I hung up the phone and called Legendary. Nice to talk to, perfect panels AND cheaper.

They are definitely making a profit. I have no problem with a company marking up shipping enough to allow that department to at least break even, but....

I order electronic components on a part basis and they can all fit in a .70 envelope, yet I get charged $12 shipping on 4 resistors....F that. They end up arriving in a 12x4x4 box with 4 bags of air as filler and the little plastic envelop with my 4 resistors. WTH?

So all this discussion is over one period?

Many years ago, I purchased a pair of the hood scoops for my 69 Coronet R/T. That was back when they just had a printed list of parts, I should have known better. Anyhow, they said exact reproductions with correct mounting studs installed. The scoops didn't look half bad, but they had plumbers pipe strapping embedded in the fiberglass in the stud positions. I wouldn't have used them on a car that I was sending to the crusher! I think I still have them, I'll take some pictures and post them on here for a good laugh.

Twenty years ago when restoring my GTO, I bought parts from Year One, sent by USPS. They would overcharge EVERY time on the postage, & the products were usually more expensive than other places. I stopped using them.

I too have visited and had a tour of the facility when it was based in Stone Mountain. Spent many thousands of dollars over the last 35 years with them...but not so much in the last 10.

It is great that were among the first to get parts made for the Restorer market, but their shipping costs and technique has let them down for a few years now. The last package I received could have been packed a lot more concisely, and without all the padding pillows & catalogues that add unwanted weight.

I still have their catalog from 1987 and the fax order sheets.
I still have all mine too .....dating from about 1986. :D
