Transmission lines for A500 42RH

I am in the mockup stage of an A500 42RH for s 69 A body. The 1992 Dakota trans lines are not going to work. I am considering changing the fittings out on the trans with some off an A904. My questions are in regards to trans lines from inline tube. They list trans lines with different part numbers for 69 A body one number for A904, and a different number for A727. Now I am a bit unsure which set of lines to order.

Are the fluid ports in the A518 in the same location as an A727? Are the ports in the A500 in the same location as the A904. I want to get the correct lines, but do not have an old A904 to compare and measure against my A500 trans.

Everything I have read is, that you need 3/8" lines for the overdrives. Something about the added volume needed to help keep the OD unit cool. Every 500-518 lines I have seen are 3/8?, must be for some reason, if I'm wrong.

Either that, or it could be since they were being used in pickups and vans that chrysler anticipated that people were going to load them down and tow stuff with them. This is not normally so with a passenger car from that same timeframe.

If I had to guess , the 3/8" is to slow down fluid velocity so it stays in the trans cooler part of the radiator a little longer. I will be adding an auxilliary transmission cooler to this setup anyways.

Any other thoughts?

If I remember right Matt, I used Dakota or 1500 3/8 lines that ran along the drivers side of the block but I cut and spliced them with some custom bends at the front of the block to the cooler in front of the radiator. This allowed me to bracket support them to the block. I admit I did use a small section of rubber through the radiator support to the cooler. The only other option looked liked custom bending my own or using braided or rubber. Some guys are really great at custom bending lines...I’m just not one of them.

Hey Matt.
I used 1/4 npt to 3/8 compression fittings in both the trans and radiator, then ran all new 3/8 steel line.
Simplified things nicely.
One other small detail is that I ran the lines along the front frame rail behind the steering box from the headers instead of picking up all the heat off the motor along the route to the front like the factory routing.
