Morning guys

Lucky for the neighbors, the power came back on around midnite, so I was able to shut the generator off before going to sleep

I'm happy to report she did well though
I put in the hook up last year, and this was my first time running it, but it was all pretty flawless
Morning Diy sure is nice having back up power. What size generator you running?

Yeah it is
We decided to get one last winter when rhw power kept going out

I'd have to check the exact numbers but it is somewhere in the 5000 watt range

Perhaps not strong enough to run the entire house, but I got my breakers divided in essential and non essential and it did just fine last nite

My freezer stayed on, the sump pumps worked and we had light in the rooms we were in, so all is well

If I ever strike it rich I may have one of the general units installed, that run on natural gas and fire up automatically, but for now, this worked just fine

I need to wire mine in someday I have a 5,000 watt as well and run extension cords and usually after getting it all set up and ready the power comes back on.

i checked the numbers, my generator is a B&S 7185 start up power and 5750 continuous

i installed a "generator inlet box" a while ago, kinda looks like this

as you can tell, it has two hots, which then get wired into a double breaker on the main panel

i installed a manual lock out like this

the 100 amp breaker is the main, the 30 amp is the feed from the generator
as you can tell, the interlock is a simple mechanical device which makes it impossible for both the main and the generator feed to be on at the same time, making it impossible to backfeed the generator up the line

(and of course, i pulled a permit for this, and had an electrical inspector sign off on the whole thing )

i just got to go through with a paint marker and mark the "essential circuits" so i know which ones i want to power with the generator and which ones i dont need to

looks easy enough is it very expensive to buy?

Well I learned a lesson today when I was doing dishes I noticed the dish washer was getting dirty on the inside walls and also my white coffee mugs were getting coffee stains. SOOOO being some what of a clean freek and a know it all I put some bleach in the dish washer along with all my coffee cups thinking a simple chore and about half way through the wash cycle I opened it up and found my dish washer was full of foam and it leaked out on the floor.
So I cleaned the foam out and filled the kitchen sink with foam and started the dish washer again. And now after cleaning the foam out of the dish washer 4 times I now have clean coffee cups and my dish washer is clean. Never will I do that again. lol

Next time I get a wild idea on how to clean something I'll read the label on the cleaner. lol
I think there is a trap screen in them you could clean.

I just priced insurance on the farm truck and full coverage is 308 for 6 months. I think I might get it legal by the end of the month at that price.

The 1st things I will do with the truck are of course the 1 flat repair then fix the exhaust and a complete tune up. After that I will say its road ready then I can work on the gas gauge and rust repair.

Not sure on your year of truck but the later model trucks and Blazers when I replaced the rockers I would delete the back side panel that was the cause of them holding in dirt and water. Plenty strong enough without the back panel and cheaper. But just my 2 cents.

depends on you're idea of expensive, but i was able to cut cost by shopping around and doing some stuff myself

a 20 foot 30 amp cord will run you 50 bucks
i was about to buy both end for 9 dollars a piece, and wire for about 50 cents a foot, end ended up making that cord for 28 myself

the interlock was 30
the inlet box was 64

then some odds and ends, the 30 amp breaker, dont quite remember, 25 bucks?
and some wire to run from the inlet box into the breaker panel, and the conduit it runs through...another 50?

that puts it at right about 200 bucks

plus however much you got in the generator itself, in my case, about 600 bucks

oh, and however much it was to pull a permit, i dont remember how much it was, but you really want to do that part to cover your butt

I would definitely have it inspected. Thanks for the info. that's not bad at all.
