Hi Guys,

Getting to that point of changing the oil on my '72 Demon with BB. Few questions for you:

1. How often do you change the oil if only driving ~5000/year?
2. How do you access the oil filter to change it out? Almost seems like I have to remove the front sway bar just to get to the filter and hope that I can pull it between the block and radiator.

Anyone have insights?

I make a cardboard "trough" to put under the filter to catch it's oil and direct it forward to clear the sway bar and into my drip pan. It saves a lot of mess.

i would change the oil before you put it away for the season, helps to keep the contaminants from settling out. once a year is a good idea regardless of mileage.

I change mine 3-4 times a year...but it's dusty, dirty, and hot for 6 months at a stretch and those factors all add up to reduced oil life. Cheap (well, not really @ $8/qt LOL) insurance. Up where you are, I'd probably do twice a year...it all depends on your conditions and usage IMO. Another thing to think about is how well it stays tuned--running rich even just during warmup driving puts extra fuel in the oil--which also reduces oil life.

Thanks! This is helping....

Now how do you guys get the oil filter out? Are you removing front sway bar?
