Hi everyone, For magnum engines (if you don't drill the hole in the block for LA oiling) there is limited cylinder heads available that are worth the price. You got the Eddy heads, old EQ heads and R/t heads (if you can find them). The one cylinder head that I never see for sale is the aluminum version of the magnum cylinder head part number p4876624 (Pic below).

How come these heads never show up for sale? Even R/t heads and the other heads mentioned above show up on the forum, facebook, or ebay from time to time.

Is that the one that there isn’t a header with a flange that seals it correctly ?

Mopar Performance P4876624 Magnum aluminum cylinder head 5.2L 5.9L | eBay

Guys that is not the same cylinder head. That is an eddy head that gets the mopar logo. That's all. It's part number is P5153847 as mentioned in the ebay ad.

The cylinder head I mentioned and pictured is completely different. Different cc chambers, the rocker pedestals are different, exhaust port is different ect......

1: There stupidly expensive (No! MoPar won’t come down on the price ether. AKA - Greedy Bastards!)

2: Almost no one owns one due to number one above.

3: If I did pay the piper through the nose and buy one, I could never resell it at a reasonable price. To recoupe any funds.

4: You do not need to drill the Magnum block in order to oil the LA heads. There are rockers available for the LA head that use hollow pushrods.

5: It has been shown here that you can also tap the rear of the cylinder head and use a drilled bolt at the end of the rocker shaft to oil the rocker system on a LA head. Just use a “T” fitting and use pressure feed oil from the rear of the block where the oil idiot light or pressure gauge sender goes.

@rumblefish360 Do you mean when they came out and being sold they were expensive? or do you mean cause of them being rare they are expensive now? Honestly havent seen one come up for sale.

Also true about there being shaft style rockers that allow oiling through pushrod like the magnum. But you are now limited to a max of 1.6 ratio rocker that way. Meanwhile with pedestal rockers you could go to a 1.7.

Lastly I've heard about the t fitting but have never done it.

Yes
or do you mean cause of them being rare they are expensive now?
No, but that may add to it.

Not true, only for a Magnum head it would be. Below is the reason.

Lastly I've heard about the t fitting but have never done it.
This mod allows for regular rockers @ 1.5 ratio to be used.

So, in actuality, a SBM can use all 3 above rocker ratios, head style attachment dependent.

You can run LA heads on a magnum. As long as you run rockers that alow push rod oiling. I have a set of the new 190cc trick flow heads on my 2000 magnum.

@mopar65 Is there a 1.7 ratio shaft rocker available that allows for the oiling through the pushrod? I couldn't find one

Is there a reason you want a 1.7 ratio rocker arm so bad?
The Edelbrock Magnum head is currently available, accepts Chevy style stud mount rocker arms, and if you are stuck on a 1.7 ratio, it looks like the Chevy rockers are available from a few different suppliers in 1.7 ratio.
There are plenty of Magnum builds with LA heads and pushrod oiling, and Edelbrock Magnum heads with Chevy rocker arms making all the power you could want without the binding issues common in a higher ratio rocker arm.

Kinda crazy yearone has this for sale and the listing is for one head correct ?

If they’re like most other MP heads...... the initial cost was probably way high, and they needed a bunch of work done on them before they offered any real benefits(or could even be used).
Couple that with the fact that there have been many horror stories of MP heads with difficult to correct manufacturing defects(think w5 and stage 6)....... and it’s probably not too hard to figure out why they weren’t that popular.

While others have already covered the ability to oil through the pushrods or via the shaft bolt, many early Magnum blocks (pre-1995 in my experience at the pick-a-part), still have the head oiling provision. I have a 1994 dated 360 block with it. Food for thought.

I can't remember where, but I read something a while back from the Magnum guys saying to stay away from these heads, that they were nothing but junk. Don't know what the issue with them was thought.
