Next two nights temps here are supposed to drop down into mid 20’s one night, upper 20’s the next night... low to mid 40’s in the daytime, before temps warm back up again.
Just wondering with just water in it, if a few hours will cause any issues where it dips below freezing
TIA

EDIT: Just saw where you are... so my post might be silly since you do the same thing in the winter...

EDIT2: Some problem with antifreeze? Just curious...

Having grown up in MN, I'll say you're good to go. I parked outside with 20 or more below regularly.

You saying all you have is straight water?

yes, straight water.
The bay is attached to my showroom( car lot) it shares a wall, and its 68 degrees in here. Open a door off the showroom directly into the bay.

The only time I ever had an issue with just water in something and below freezing temps was when it was a long hard freeze. Pressure washer pump ended up cracking. Closed garage and various dirt bikes with just water wetter (which offers no freeze protection) I never had issues either. Pop the radiator cap off at the most but I see no worry

kinda what i thought. Not supposed to get below freezing until after midnight both nights, then back above freezing in the morning, and it is in an enclosed bay with finished walls on both sides, overhead doors on both ends.

Because of freezing point depression, temps need to get below freezing to actually start crystallizing water.

And the garage, car, and block insulate.

do you have additive in it like water wetter. Any solution in the water will lower the freezing point some too.

They used to mix alcohol in the water before Prohibition. Wasn’t very great since it would evaporate out.

no watter wetter yet. Likely will add some soon. Just got it done and back to the shop on Sunday

It’s been a few years since I’ve had dirt bikes and used that water wetter but I’m almost certain it only Lowers the actual water temp. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t offer any antifreeze Benefit. I may be wrong

frankly, never been a big fan of the stuff. Don't have cooling issues, straight water has always worked fine
Just didn't expect this cold couple of days this year, after its already out.

I guess it depends on the garage....My attached garage with my Barracuda stays above freezing as long as the temps are above 10°F. If it goes single digits in will drop below freezing in the garage (I keep a thermometer on my car all winter just to monitor the temp in there). Since it is connected to your showroom, I would think it would be OK...but if you are worried about it, move the car in the show room :).

By the way, it is currently snow/raining where I am :-(

any solution in water lowers freezing point. Just some more that others.

salt, alcohol, orange juice,

gotta think back to 8th grade chemistry class. Freezing-point depression - Wikipedia

Now don’t use water wetter to replace anti freeze. We’re just talking a little bit cause of what it is and low concentration

You really trust the forecast? Why take the chance?
Air won't crack the block. Drain it.
Lot's of I/O boaters find out the hard way.

Not exactly...there are ways to raise the freezing pt as well as lower it....just my inner chemistry nerd talking.:D

Never trust Mother Nature. It would be a simple task to drain the radiator, after all it's only distilled water

I pull the rad cap as that lets the water expand when it freezes. As one of the guys said, put an incandescent bulb under the block, or a small space heater with a fan and a shipping blanket over the motor.

As for Red Line water wetter, it is not a coolent, but an oil that is water soluble and helps with heat transfer and lubes the water system. Most racing cars use this as coolent is not allowed on tracks...

would “change freezing point” be better terminology?

would you agree even Water Wetter would lower the freezing point a little? So would pouring in salt, bottle of beer, pasta sauce, etc... ?

Yes, I agree with you...and sorry, I'm not try to be a turd. I actually am a Chemist by trade (Analytical Chemist), and I get a little nit picky on wording...because.....well, I can't help it, its what I do.:)

Carry on.

You guys scared me enough...lol
Will crack the radiator cap, and have a small little space heater i will put under it and let it run the next two nights

Man you live in Michigan like me. Drain that water and get some antifreeze in there. Don't learn the hard way, you'll kick yourself in the *** for the rest of your life! 65'

No, I appreciate the insight. Thank you.

over reacting. You guys have him building a potential bonfire to burn his business to the ground. (Oh geez, Now I got him all stirred up)

Purely an attempt at humor, sir. I think I mentioned originally not much to worry about

put an old school bulb work light under the oil pan on the floor.
won't get below freezing under the hood...

Well, i used that trick with my old outside dog..... Hung a lightbulb in her doghouse, and sealed the door with an old truck innertube with a slit in it. She never froze, or even got too cold. It was the funniest thing ever to see her pop her head out and look around after a big overnight snowstorm, and then pop back in to a long winters nap!!:thumbsup:
