Car show question

-
Your Duster is a nice car it should be in the show.

thanks, it is showing its ago though
it needs a repaint and some rust repair
the interior has been redone at some point but should be redone again

but she runs great, and i dont mind parking it close to the door wherever i go

I'd feel proud riding in an old rusty Ford with a flat tire more than a new car.

Never have nor never will have a show car or perfect car. I could if I wanted one, but to me it is all about the experience of working on and especially driving a classic. As some others said I always have great conversations with people about how did you do this or that. Too many times I’ve asked a technical or in-depth question about show car and get “IDK I bought it like this”. Move on. If ya care about trophies more than the experience or what others say, then don’t bring your car. I gravitate to the unusual or homebuilt. Those are my kinda people. Just ride along and look around to enjoy the day. Craig

Right on Craig I agree 100% Last car show I went to last year the guy that got the best award never did anything to his car. I did all the work to it and never even got a thank you.

I would tag along to the first show and get a feel for what kind of club it is. Bunch of snobs or other work in progress. Who wants to talk about how they did their car and how would they feel about your bringing a wip. Then you'll know if you should bring it next time.

Take it to the shows, heck yeah!

The story behind your car is worth sharing, people will like to know. Pop the hood and show them your fresh engine bay too.

Wow, Wow !!!

I have taken my rat rod to many shows, just for the conversation and better parking spot. The first show I got parked next to a Ford GT40. Rather drastic difference there. Now I will be bringing the Demon to shows, it was in a garage since 1984, chips and marks on it, but it is way more fun than a perfect restored car..I say take it and have fun, especially when rain comes and they all scatter like the world will end.
I have no problems with a work in progress, because I’ve been there and have 3 more that will be there. Have to admit, I’m not a fan of the trailer queens and the new cars. But they don’t care about what I like and I don’t care what they like.

I do get a laugh when the GM and Ford guys move their trucks away from my 53 Dodge truck because it gets more love from the crowd than theirs.

A couple years ago, I was at the Nationals in Columbus, I and a few of my friends watched this "stressed out" looking duster come in.
One of my more vocal friends commented " What a heap!" I looked at him and said, "That heap runs better than yours, doesn't it?"
Bill has a 74 Challenger Convertible that he's been working on for at least 15 or more years. I asked Bill where his car was, at least the "heap" made it to Nats.
I didn't didn't know it at the time, but the "heap" belongs to @75slant6
I say take it. Anyone has something to say either doesn't have a car, built a car or are just asshats.

Take it. Took my junk to Mecca (Carlisle). Felt right at home........

Best comment I heard there?
"I like cars you can drive"
Yup.

Oh, and that picture was of six Mopar convertibles parked together.
1970 340 Challenger
1969 road runner
1967 Newport
1968 GTS
Another 1970 Challenger, I believe
1969 GTX

The black '66 Barracuda roof toward the left side of the pic was also mine. The interior was a little crusty at that time, but the paint was nice.

That was a fun trip for sure!! Maybe I’ll be able to make it back up there this year with it, who knows. This pic was taken probably soon after that conversation between you and your buddy.

love that car
(hate the wheels)
but love the patina and overall look
Don’t worry, the wheels are getting changed eventually. Although you’ll probably hate those even more. Lol Gonna get 18x9s up front and 19x11 with 28” tires out back.

I know it's your car and your money, but still...

You had just taken it off the trailer.
I had no idea who you were or who the car belonged to at the time.
You came by and said Hi, I still didn't know that was your car. If I'd had known, I would have rubbed it in a little.
I like my friend Bill, but he can be an asshole now and again.
BTW, his Challenger is still sitting, in pieces, in his garage.

it’s all good. Nothing that 20 lug nuts and 30 minutes can’t change if I ever wanna do something different. Definitely won’t be going smaller than 17’s though, since I’m putting 14” brakes on the front and eventually the rear as well.

Well, I can’t say too much. The Duster is currently sitting in the garage, in pieces as well. :BangHead: Hopefully make some progress on it this weekend though.

Hello all. I want to get yalls general opinion on a matter. My new boss, is also a car guy we have got to talking about cars and such. He is a member of a car club that is somewhat local (about an hour away, 80 miles or so) he has a very nice restored 71 chevy c 10 with a 402. He invited me to go to the car shows with him this summer. As a general how do car guys feel about unfinished cars in car shows? My car is nowhere near complete but it does run and drive now and is a WIP! Would it insult or piss anyone off to bring a wip and park it beside a fully restored car?

My two cents...

Nothing wrong with bringing a work in process or rough car into a show. I've seen it quite a few times, but I think you'll get more from the day if you take some time to clean the car up. People may want to see your car as it might remind them of the one they had... Maybe the the same condition even.

It's a minimal cost to clean the windows, tires, etc. Vacuum the interior. Got some good paint? Polish it. Wash the car... Yea, it might be rust or primer, but make it clean rust and primer.

Follow my thoughts? Present it well... An afternoon of cleaning isn't going to win you a trophy, but it will get more people looking and talking rather than walking by. It will make the experience more fun.
