if you've ever wanted a 68 fastback big-block Cuda at a VERY reasonable price that doesn't require a Hamtramic assembly line to put back together, this is your car. i seriously considered buying this car myself, but didn't because it doesn't have a fender tag.

i'll be interested to see what the "critics" think is wrong with this deal. i love 68 Cuda's and i think this is a GREAT deal!!

Hell of a deal for somebody. At least it comes with the steel parts, and a set of stocker buckets to make it right again.

I think it's a steal!!!!! If the engine is in decent shape and it still has the big rear end???

Would need to see the hidden numbers, see a few 67 parts on it and a few factory big block parts missing. Still is a great deal on a 68 fastback if everything checks out.

Doesn't have correct exhaust manifolds or hood inserts. This not an original car.
Ummm it is 52 years old. A lot tends to happen to these cars in that length of time. The vin is what tells the tale. Correct manifolds or not.

And even if it's not an original big block 68 cuda, it looks to be in damn fine shape as it sits with all the hard work already done to stuff it in there. I would know, I am the guy with the Hamtramck "assembly line" in his garage.

I think Jim has a few of these. I bet he can vouch for it's authenticity.

yes, i have 7 of these cars now. however, as the ad notes, this car does not have a fender tag which is too bad. but this is still a car worth serious consideration at the price listed. the pictures clearly show that the car has no apparent rust to be repaired. naturally, the underneath of the car could present rust problems but from the portions of the body that can be seen, it is unlikely the chassis has major rust problems. rust tends to be visible on these cars on several common areas. this car does not show rust in those areas that can be seen. a "400 big block" is not the correct motor for the car as ALL 67-69 Barracuda's came with the older 383. the 400 was not released by Chrysler till the 1972 model year. this block replaced the older 383. but both engines look almost exactly alike so few people would know this car has a 400 instead of the 383. but the owner says the car "runs and drives" and has a 727 Torqueflite and a 3:91 rear gear. that is a VERY popular drive train. i like 4 speeds and they are still worth more than automatics in these cars (especially the 383 cars) - but you are already starting out with a great drive train here. the interior in this car looks good and the stuff that needs to be changed back to stock can be done easily. finally, these big block fastbacks look very nice in that dark green. i have a friend in Pittsburgh who is just finishing an A-57 green fastback and it looks beautiful. this car could easily be turned into a "Cuda 383" with minimum work. just an FYI: the 383 fastbacks are bringing $30-$40k when completely restored. you could buy this car for $8500, put $10k in the car and end up with a "Cuda" that was worth AT LEAST $28k. this car could actually be a "flip" car for profit - but i don't really like the guys who are doing that.

It's correct for an 8500 dollar car.

I'm not seeing the "best buy" value...
With a nother 10k in parts, 10k in free labor, and a free 10-12k paint job I could see it being worth 18k to someone who likes that body style...
It's a barracuda NOT a cuda...

How "Crunchy" it is underneath tells the tale. If you can pull motor and drivetrain. Median blast underneath. Then undercoat/paint (Including engine bay?) You can turn this car for some coin. (Assuming one doesn't go crazy on paint job.) Personally? I would stroke that 400 to a 451 street machine. Least expensive stroker build. With very good performance results. Without fender tag? Make it a fun street ride. But that's me. Someone else may have very different ideas.

Thanks, Jarhead, I'd hoped you'd chime in. FYI, I met a member "clementine" this past weekend. He has a 68 Barracuda fastback 383 A833 car he's building from scratch. I helped him with some wiring questions, and admired his work. I'll pass your handle on to him, if that's acceptable. I don't blind side my friends from this site. Paul.

hey 70dart... sure, no problem. pass my contact info on to your friend. i just had a couple of guys at my garage down from northern PA buying some parts for a 68 340 dart he is building. i've also got a pretty extensive library of parts books and repair manuals for 68-69 Barracudas. if you ever need to check an OEM part number or confirm if a part was used on these cars, or need a picture schematic of a parts group, drop me a line.

really j par? have you been living on another planet for the last 10 years? i am seeing Barracudas that are COMPLETE JUNK selling for $3500 - $5000. one of these cars that is a complete car and is "running and driving" has an "average" selling price of around $14,000. i have a feeling you have NO-ZERO actual experience in the background and current market value of 67-69 Barracudas. and as to this car not having the "Cuda" package, you are correct. however, you could add that option to this car which would increase its value substantially. there are lots of guys in the marketplace for these cars that do not care if everything on the car is completely "factory correct" so long as the car looks and runs nice. i'll bet you're one of those guys who would go up to a guy at a car cruise who has a for sale sign on his very nice "driver" 69 Formula S Barracuda saying "asking $26,000" and ask the guy if he would take $15k. and then YOU would probably start nit-picking all the minor things wrong with the guy's car. i've done a complete restoration on a 68 Barracuda and am finishing two 69's that i have right now. i KNOW what these cars are worth and i KNOW how much it costs to bring one of these cars back to "decent" driver condition. and that number IS NOT the $30,000 you think it is.

LOL... You sure seem to feel that you have me pegged... And freely putting words in my mouth saying I would do this and do that LOL....
First prices of cars on the East coast are different than the West coast...
Second it's been repeated here millions of times that a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it...
Let me say it for myself instead of you putting words in my mouth... I would never walk up to anybody at a car show and offer them money for their car.. especially if it didn't have a for sale sign in it.. and if they were asking $26, 000 for a what I would deem as a $15,000 car I would be able to see we were light years away and not insult the person with an offer like that... I'm not a fan of the 68-69 barracuda so that would be off the table to begin with... If I ever spend that kind of money it's not going to be on an a body... If people are spending that that kind of money "on complete junk" I would say there's an *** for every seat or a fool and his money are soon parted...

I'm not sure what some of you guys are complaining about?? I would buy the car, get it running, paint it with a nice paint job then drive it and enjoy it. It would be a blast for cheap. It wouldn't be long before someone would offer you good money for the car since it is a big block Barracuda!! No, you won't get top dollar because of the fender tag missing but there many guys/gals out there looking for their high school car that would love to relive their high school days (fender tag or no fender tag)!!! That's my take on the car!!!

$$ value based on bookface pics??:bs_flag: also see the car with flip top gas cap? I would bet seller knows mopars and their "value ".

^^^Treblig is correct IMO.
i guess that Ford guy in Az., still repops Mopar fender tags. Still a missing fender tag would not be a deal breaker for everyone.
J Par is right about what makes sense as to how many $$ a person might spend on a certain model of car. But not everyone is into second gen Chargers and 70-1 E bodies. And what makes $ sense sometimes boils down to what work the owner can do. Not everyone has to send off a car to the paint shop for 2 years and $10,000.
Everyone sees everything different. We see it here every day. For some a rusted piece of poop, they see the glass 3/4 full, and others see a good builder as the glass almost empty! ha

all i can say to you J par is - why in the hell are you even on FABO? AND - you really ought to go over to the Chevy or Ford guys and start a collection of Mustangs or Camaro's ... you clearly AREN'T a "mopar guy" or you wouldn't be making such negative and frankly - stupid - comments about mopars - no matter which model of "mopar" ...

Really?? Pretty harsh words from a guy who is the self imposed GURU on 2nd gen cudas. "I KNOW THIS" and "I KNOW THAT". " I've researched for decades"
Blah fuckin blah....
Oh and the only.thing you ever post on is 2nd gen cudas....take the damn blinders off....

LOL.. I'm not a Mopar guy because I wouldn't buy a non numbers matching project a body Mopar for $8,500?...
It's not that I don't like 68 69 barracudas it's just not my cup of tea.... And definitely wouldn't pay that kind of money for a non-running project...
LOL... "Not a Mopar guy..." LOL...

The price of these cars are not cheap, and I don't care what part of the country you are from. What's funny is, my wife's RC is heading to a land far away that is not part of the rust belt. Why? Because there's not a better deal locally, even when paying high shipping rates. I shop all over the country, and I can tell you nothing is cheap anywhere when it comes to desirable mopars from, let's say '64 - 74. With that being said, yes, in some area's of the country prices are reflected. The car in question seems like an awesome deal, however, a guy would have to see it in person to know for sure
