A 68 Cuda big-block fastback for $8500 - this is the best buy yet

-
Pre 70 67-69 Barracudas and Darts, the only a-body that could be had with a big block. lol
and 68 Hemi powered Barracuda and Dart super stock cars. The fastest Mopar's ever built.

The price of these cars are not cheap, and I don't care what part of the country you are from. What's funny is, my wife's RC is heading to a land far away that is not part of the rust belt. Why? Because there's not a better deal locally, even when paying high shipping rates. I shop all over the country, and I can tell you nothing is cheap anywhere when it comes to desirable mopars from, let's say '64 - 74. With that being said, yes, in some area's of the country prices are reflected. The car in question seems like an awesome deal, however, a guy would have to see it in person to know for sure
What is the most you've paid for an a-body Mopar?..

I think we'd have to adjust for the time frame - inflation I speak. Also, at the time I owned some of the more expensive/desired cars, they were much cheaper as it was many years ago. My 2 current A-bodies, and not the most desired ('74 & '76) were 2800 apiece. Both have had considerable work since I've bought them, and both still need more work and are NOT show cars.

My '74 was a decent running /6 driver when I bought it. It was originally from Az, then to Washington for college, then came out to me. Lot's of little dingers, faded paint and a tore up vinyl roof. But it is one of the most solid A-bodies I've owned as far as rust goes. It now has the dual quad 318, rebuilt 904, duals and rallye wheels.
My '76 came from Az, and that 2800 included shipping. 318, auto. You know what I did to it.

My 73 was originally a slant six AC car but when I got it someone had put a 68 barracuda k frame in it and a 318 out of a police pursuit car.. and had a windage tray and 360 heads... Pin straight original paint and one of the most rust free dusters of came across..
My point still remains I'm not going to put 8K plus into a project a body...
My next Mopar car will be a 69 roadrunner or satellite or belvedere...
So wouldn't matter which one of the three as I'm never going to be a numbers matching kind of guy anyways...

Well,

Today is another issue.

I purchased my 69 383s for $600 in 1984 off a used car lot. It was sad looking to me but, a full drive off the lot car and knew it had potential. I was still in shock from loosing my 69 383 4spd Bee to a fire. Time heals all!

i know what your saying, and it's not the car for you. I'm going by fair market value, not if I would personally buy it or not. '68/69 cuda's have a much higher market than '73-76 A-bodies. Again, one would have to go over the details in person.

Agree... Is it the "best buy yet"..
Not in my book.. dose my "opinion" of this car make me stupid or "not a Mopar guy".. LOL.. I don't think so...

I have noticed over the years on the net, that guys in these Mopar sites like FABO, FBBO, etc., in general, seem to be the hardest sell in the world. Anyone ever notice how so many people just pick a car to death, especially if for sale?

I admit, I have always been conservative when buying because I know that car will eventually find a new home either by desire or necessity.Numbers match drive train? I will say that maybe 3% of the cars I have owned, ( a bunch) IF a high performance model would have the #'s engine, 69 up cars. And unless a rally high profile model, 6 pac or hemi, or even big block B body, 95% of the buyers rally cared less, as in did not want to pay a premium for such.

While we are using ole J par as a kick dog,... he says his next project will be a 69 RR or Sat, non match car. I have little love for the #'s deal anymore, as he, but I hope he can find a whole lot better project for a whole lot less $ that what I have seen for sale all over the country in the last 5-10 years!!! I know he is in the Left Coast boonies.
Such makes that Barracuda look darn good, but I understand he hates that model!! ha

So no one looks at these seats and says what else?...
Trash the late model seats in there but sitting on that garage floor were the OEM seat cores, that yes need foam and all.
I seem to think this thread was just a heads up about a BB cuda project? No one knows how good or bad it is till it is looked at up close and personal. Who knows if it could be bought cheaper and be a real killer deal, for the guy that desires this model.

I looked at a 67 383 4 speed numbers matching project car before buying my 68. Asking price was $19k he dropped to $15k while I was there. I offered $12k and I'm glad he didn't accept. That car for $8,500 is a better deal on a comparable car. This is the car I looked at and trust me it was NOT as nice as it looked upon close inspection.

Funky custom paint jobs can make you wonder!!!!!
Few month ago I did my FIRST custom paint job on a 64 Ply MORE door Bel. OK so it was just a custom version of two tone. What happens to the pic?? Easy fix IF someone buys it and don't like it, but it will make any buyer wonder maybe? Maybe I will just be able to keep it!?? Sad part is, it is worth more for parts than for a running driving car. I just hated to part it out for bones!

The pictures and short video he sent enticed me to borrow a trailer and drive 300 miles with cash in hand. What I found was a light blue car with blue interior that had been "in a barn" for 30 years. The car wasn't even cleaned out when it was painted. The interior was spray painted black or just left blue. The trunk and inside still had cob webs and dust 1/4" thick. The paint job was "fresh" and full of dirt. The motor and trans were number matching , the exhaust manifolds were there and correct. I knew this was a "good" car just way overpriced considering it was a total mess. The test drive was another story and made my mind up I'd offer $12k with the hope he wouldn't accept. On the way home with an empty trailer we found my 68 and I bought it a few days later.

LOL.. I'm not a Mopar guy because I wouldn't buy a non numbers matching project a body Mopar for $8,500?...
It's not that I don't like 68 69 barracudas it's just not my cup of tea.... And definitely wouldn't pay that kind of money for a non-running project...
LOL... "Not a Mopar guy..." LOL...

jpar... i guess you didn't read the noted Barracuda ad very closely. the ad says the car "runs and drives." tell you what - why don't you keep a list of all the 68-69 Barracudas you run across for sale for $8500 that ALSO run and drive and only need a few items to bring them back to about 80% stock. when you get multiple cars on this list, send it to me here on FABO because i will probably buy one or more of those cars. it's fine that 68-69 Barracudas are not your thing. however, if those particular cars were "your thing", you would know that $8500 for the car i listed in the condition that the car is in with the parts that come with the car IS "a good deal."

If it's got an "H" in the VIN for an engine, then it's a 383 car.

I really care not that it's "Barracuda" and not a "'Cuda".

It sure looks solid in the pics.

If it was close to me I'd dang sure put 8.5K in my pocket and go look at it.

Factory big block A body cars aren't super common.

The last solid, running and driving 68 Barracuda for sale near me was listed at $22,000 and appeared to sell after about a month.

It was a built 318 car.

Really?? Pretty harsh words from a guy who is the self imposed GURU on 2nd gen cudas. "I KNOW THIS" and "I KNOW THAT". " I've researched for decades"
Blah fuckin blah....
Oh and the only.thing you ever post on is 2nd gen cudas....take the damn blinders off....

LOL! hey dragtop.... what's YOUR background on "2nd gen cudas?" i purchased an almost new 1968 Formula S Barracuda in 1969 while in high school and hung out on the weekends at the Plymouth dealer where i bought the car. i knew these cars WHEN THEY WERE NEW! can YOU say that? SINCE graduating from high school in 1972, i kept up with mopars all through college (at Harvard) and Law School. i now have 7 68-69 Barracudas and probably spend several hours a day reading and learning MORE about these cars. i have NEVER called myself a "GURU" as you've noted. when i have said "i know this" or "i've researched" something - that is the TRUTH! i do NOT just talk out of my *** like some "so-called" mopar fans do. i have been involved with the 2nd gen Barracudas for 52 years; have worked on these cars myself; read and study about these cars; and OWN 7 of them. i do NOT post on B-body or E-body mopars because i do not have experience with them. i practiced law for 28 years. in that time, i NEVER gave clients advice about legal questions in an area of the law where i had no experience or training. that's the way "intelligent" people act dragtop.

so just for everyone's education and assistance here on FABO - why don't you share your background, experience and knowledge of A-body mopars for all of us to see so in the future, someone here can contact YOU to ask for your opinion or assistance? you "down" with that idea?

Really if it turns your Crank that bad just go get it and tell us all about it...
You're the one over here jumping up and down about what a great deal it is...
I certainly don't have to impress you and I certainly don't have to go out and buy cars to impress you and fix them up to impress you LOL.. I may be stupid but you're very funny... LOL...

I like it when people open their mouth and remove all doubt...
Thank you for painting a clear picture of who you are and what you're about...

I recommend looking at current prices ,,,,today. Three years ago Nice pre '70 Sedans both A and B body, previously 4-5k are now in the 12k range. rusted out deranged 69 charger hulks now fetch 7k+ not 2k. All Mopars are appreciating rapidly,, face it. And a titled 68 383 Formula S that resembles a complete car is worth 8500. If you don't agree, then don't buy it. But by summer it will be higher. Three years ago I sold a rough 70 340 duster body with no drive train for 3,000. Today the duster would fetch 6k. The missing tag hurts, but today people are desperate to have one, and will overlook it.

This opinion is my opinion just mine.
But I also own a 68 383 GTS,(20 years) 69 340 GTS,(31 years) totally restored, and A 69 Cuda 383 four speed car (8 years)that is close to being done. Nine A bodies reside here, and I have owned at least 50 of them over the years.
I purchased a pristine 71 Demon slant six car out on the west coast in 2015 for 5,000.
I just renewed my Insurance, so I was bold and raised it to 10k. The agent chuckled, said nothing. When I got the declaration page in the mail, it was agreed at 15k. The company raised it for me.

A big influence on the prices is the fact that as long as the GOVT borrows and spends money, it will be worth less. Houses today are a good example. We are all in a bad place, some of us just don't know it yet.

I am no "expert" but I've owned , bought , and sold some really nice Mopars in my lifetime. They are getting expensive and they never made many to begin with. Solid reasonably priced "project" cars are fewer and farther between. My personal opinion is that car as Jim Harvard stated is a good buy considering it's "close" to being a driver. Seems all there just needs finished. You know this site and the people on it have been nothing but helpful to me. A bodies have not been my "thing" I just happened to have bought 2 in the last couple years and You guys have helped me tremendously. THANK YOU I'm not used to seeing people who have a different opinion on here being so rude. If you don't agree fine , move on...…….

Like we didnt know OR couldnt tell you were a lawyer....with a small dick. Haaavard you say???? Oh my.....we all truly are in the presence of royalty. I'm impressed. Weeman.
I guess my "claim to fame"...I'm NOT a lawyer....

LOL... Your lawyer friend is the one who called me stupid... Not a Mopar person and that I need to go somewhere and buy Chevy's.. again remind me who was it here that's being rude?... let's simply voice that I didn't think this was the best deal yet I didn't go calling people names... Maybe that's something lawyers do on the internet but I don't do it...
if I'm going to talk like that to somebody I'm going to do it to their face not via the Internet I feel that well you know what that is...
