I purchased a Moroso 65910 air cleaner, only to find that the electric choke on my Demon 1900 carburetor protrudes out too far for the base plate to sit down on air horn. Weiand 8007 intake manifold, 1973 360 V8. Any suggestions on air cleaner that gives hood clearance are appreciated.

DOH!

A small spacer between the carburetor and air cleaner will solve it.

I used a stock 70 E body air cleaner on my Duster and it cleared fine, but a stock 72 trap door hit the hood.

Stock 73 trap door hits the hood. I'm afraid raising 1" will cause same problem. Is there an aftermarket air cleaner that works with 1900 electric choke?

I think a stock e-body air cleaner would be expensive. OTOH I need to pay whatever to make this work. Did you use it with an electric choke carb?

Try double or triple air horn gaskets or 'wack a dent' right where the base interferes.

Maybe...
I may have to use the base plate from a Demon air cleaner, 14x2 filter and the Moroso top lid. Demon lid rises too high at center.

That base has quite a drop. Do you need one that drops that low? A dropped base combined with a 2 inch element will be pretty restrictive.

Yes my carb has an electric choke.

I need it for hood clearance. I'll need to measure the opening between the base and lid. We'll see. No parts on hand yet

Depending on how much clearance you need, some 'work' with a ball peen hammer might get the desired clearance.

Internal clearance with Demon air cleaner and 14x2 is about .5 inch at widest point on base plate, before the drop

I did not like that, so I went with 14x3 in Demon kit to get an extra inch internal clearance.
Hood clearance, about 1 inch with 14x3 before stud and fastener

Big fastener in kit, decreases clearance to 1/4". I used short butterfly nut and ended up with about 5/8 inch clearance at center.

Thanks for the advice! Car is 1973 Monaco, so you need to make your own measurements.

stock 340 air cleaner works on my Dart as well as the Demon air cleaner that came with my street demon 850 , both clear the choke and fit under the hood with a victor 340 intake
