They did it again! Releases a reboot of an iconic name (read Mustang SUV) but this time the 'Mav' is a....compact truck? C'mon Ford. What was wrong with the ol' respected "Courier" name? I'd love to shop a new mini truck. I think its the right time for a small cheap sub 20k truck for the smaller masses...if its under 20k..? I thought the Turkish built small utility job (Transit?) they have would make an easy truck conversion.

That's too bad. I love Mavericks, too.

The Mav was like a Pinto sedan with a 302. Worked for me on a long road trip to Canada and back!

I helped a guy squeeze a Cleveland in one when I was in my 20s. Hedman even made headers for it. To say it was a tight fit was a huge understatement.

I have a set of headers for the Wife's Comet with a 302. I don't think it's gonna happen, lol.

Pintera! ...Sis's boyfriend had one. Nasty car!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!

I had more than one Courier, long story. Beat ya to death, no power, and it NEVER drove as good as my buddies 78ish Toyota SR-5 nor did it have anywhere near the suds

OK here's the annoying story from the old days, if I can remember it all LOLOL

1...Stupidly sold the 70 RR (it was a 440-6, so V code body) in the midst of the 70's "gas crises. Lowest value it would ever be

2....Bought a "nice shape" 74 Courier, but some cool little slot mags on the thing and had my buddy at the muffler shop build a cool side exit pipe. IT NEVER WOULD DRIVE decent despite about 3 trips to a front end shop. And it had poor power

JUST LIKE THIS ONE

Had these kind 'o wheels on it

3....Went up to Kan-uh-Duh on a 4x4 outing and on the way back damn near to the border, I HAD TO GO BAD. I didn't know what was ahead, but there were some trees behind me, so I pulled over to turn around. What I did not see was somebody --WHO LATER TURNED OUT TO NOT HAVE BRAKES--- had gotten clear over to the far left shoulder because he said "he wasn't sure what I would do." Well I could not see him way over there he was out of the field of the mirrors, and I did not turn around.

So I started a "U-ee" and SMACK, at about a ? 30 degree angle between the two and here is the deal

THESE WERE TWINS COURIERS AND WERE EVEN THE SAME COLOR.

4....Managed to nurse the rest of mine home but it turned out to have a bent frame. I'd agreed to buy his thinking I could fix both. Found a no-engine courier someone had started a v8 swap and then given up, I towed it home.

5....There was a local body guy, who had a worn out Courier, hated it, one day I was kidding him told him, "see if you can get it under a falling tree---don't hurt the front clip or the bed, just kill the cab. So he did LOLOL. He lived on a small hill, and started the worn out thing one morning and it would not run on "all 16". He got pissed and revvved it way up, suddenly it fired on all four AND LAUNCHED THE TRUCK OFF THE EDGE OF THE HILL, rolled upside down and crushed the cab!!!!!

6....So I fixed the Canuck one, sold it, took the left over parts and threw them at the one that was a v8 swap target---had to weld the engine mounts back into it out of my wrecked one. The one I drove was piss green with a mustard door from one of the wrecked ones, and a blue hood from the rollover. It was an ugly sight!!!

7....And drove that piece of ilk for about 3 years to work

Damn, my Courier story is a lot tamer and involved the adopted brother, the Mazda B2000. Bough my work mates old 82 B2000 and drove the **** out of it, once again, to Canada and back to tow his SSS powered 510 home on a U-haul dolly. 2.0 MA motor, plenty of power for a 4 banger up until 4th but 5th was "Kansas gear". It all fell through and ended up coming back empty handed but it had a shell on the back and we took turns sleeping back there in a sleeping bag while the other drove. It had no seal between the rear window and the shell so it was quite windy, cold and noisy back there. It always started on the first revolution of the motor, cold or warm. Thing had an awesome carb or something. Had larger that stock tires so it just floated over curbs, and it had a .78:1 5th gear that had us going about 80 at 2000 RPM. Blew a head gasket and seized the distributor so I junked it. Fast forward 20 years and I buy another 83 B2000 and its still in the driveway, It has a 63 Valiant bench seat in it! nightmare smogging it until I bought a NOS carburetor and then repaired the leaking exhaust. Its getting mothballed for the 15 year old who just showed me a 4.116 GPA report card! He aint getting a new car, were gonna work this one together to make it look nice: body and paint experiment as the motor is tits now.

In 1970, I very nearly started out as a 302Comet-GT owner. But the 70Swinger 340, had waaay more balls and a comparatively generous rear seat, which to this 17 year old at the time, made sense.

Holy dejavu, in '85 I looked at a 64 Comet Caliente (before the 65/340 Barracuda I got) with a Hi-po 289 transplanted in it (it had that badge on the fender yet they never offered that motor in 64) but the deal breaker was the BEACH CHAIRS the guy bolted onto the rusted out floor! Talk about lightweight seats!!! They were literally the low type fold up aluminum beach chairs pipe strapped (? shaped brackets) to the PLYWOOD floor! We looked under and saw what was left of the metal floor and realized why he had wood in there. This car was ready to fold if we opened the doors, but I bet it kicked some *** with that motor and the 4sp. I still feel my 68 spec 340'd 65 would have been more HP.

YES !

Just a simple Transit Connect in truck version would be great.

FWD for lower floor, lower lift-over, lower tailgate.

In previous job, I went from E-150 to E-250 to small Transit Connect.

the full size vans would get 12-13 mpg the Transit got 19-20 mpg in city loaded

I did have to lower my inventory and plan more. BUT the two side door in the Transit made things much more accessible.

I’m looking for a 1st gen 1995 to 2004 Tachoma in good shape. The later generation are fat hogs. And nearly a foot wider (66” vs 75”)

If you live in a city, the width is a big deal.

Kind of a joke but the Subaru Baja.....no bed unless you get this extension.

A few of us took some generators and equipment from the NFL draft to Ford for the unvailing

I always wanted to put a grabber hood and fox body fascia on a 4 door maverick to make a yellow Mad Max cop car tribute.

Clean 4 door mavericks are still fairly cheap.

I've even seen a few V8, floor shift cars with AC.

I had always tawt the Maverick was the 70s Falcon...:)

Mom had a 74 Comet sedan, nice car but it didnt last long,it rusted in strange places, like the "top" of the front fender, not down in the corners like a normal rust belt car..the "top" of the fender had a bug ol rust hole in it...this was like 1984,car was 10 years old.
