Hi Guys !

I have a 68 Dart Gt with the factory 318, automatic transmission and factory a/c. It's been restored now for about 5 years. I have had to put two alternators on this car - they are NAPA reman alternators - and now it need another as it is not putting out the correct amps - it's under 12 amps - I am looking at the Summit Racing Power Master Retro Alternators - this car is all stock and I am just wondering if the Summit Racing alternators are good alternators and would there be a problem with them being 95 amps? I had the same problem with the reman starters from NAPA - replaced two of those also but bought a new Summit Racing starter approx three years ago and it is working great still !
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

I gave up on the national parts store rebuilt junk and went with these guys... They make their own windings in house and do a great job....

I have a used chrome Mopar style alternator, square back, 65 amp i would let go cheap.
I worked fine when I took it off my 340 last spring, I needed a one wire alternator when I rewired the engine bay.

How are you measuring amps?

I was hoping he'd just offer up the information.

However if not we can always interrogate to get the answers needed. :)

If your car is mostly stock, you probably don’t need a high output alternator. But if you go up to a high amp alternator, you should really do some wiring upgrades as well. Mostly involving the bulkhead connector and the ammeter.
I had a Powermaster one wire 95 amp alternator on my Duster and had nothing but trouble with it. Because of my experience with it, and the company, I now avoid Powermaster at all costs.
I have a Chevy style one wire Tuff Stuff 100amp alternator now and it’s been working great. It bolted right up to my factory brackets, and was half the price of the Mopar style.
 
Better check your wiring first!

There is another issue somewhere that replacing alternators is not going to remedy! 3 in 5 years is a good clue!
