65Vart is a gem. He let me steal a dual point from him to send to Pertronix so their R&D department can make a electronic kit for that distributor. If it happens, I will let all you Commando and Charger 273 guys know. No points and better performance while using our cast iron distributors will be a great benefit.
Anytime you want to go back to points, just unhook the conversion and reinstall the points and condenser. Keep your fingers crossed. Toolmanmike

I installed a Pertronix kit in my 66 273 HP with dual point about 3 years ago. I used the one for a 340 dual point if I remember right. It all fit right and works well.

I finally got around to installing my Pertronix kit. It works good, seems to start easier and has a bit more power. I'm pleased. toolmanmike

How much did this cost? I've been looking for a conversion to do mine.

Hay Mike, this is one of those Factory cast iron distributors, right? I just picked up a cast iron dual point vacuum distributor for my Hemi build. Although I am retaining the stock distributor, those things make a great platform for electronic conversions. I've done it a few times before. I'm just gonna run the points this time for the "old school" factor. lol Gonna be fun.

This should be for yours stroker. You're working on a early hemi correct?

I am but I am stickin with points. Archaic, I know. lol

I used the points for over 5 years without a problem. I put 12,000 miles on the same set I started with and with no adjustment. They work fine. I kept the original dist all set up and ready to drop back in just in case.

It's a proven design for sure. Not many left know how to work on them. lol

Thanks tmm, pretty basic install?? I have orig dual point that I would like to use and I dont want to do the elec ign. I want to keep it ol' school

You unscrew the points and condenser from the breaker plate and pull the wiring from the housing All the old parts stay together. The pickup screws to existing holes in the breaker plate and the magnet snaps over the cam. Pop on the rotor and cap. The wiring is simple. On my kit, one wire went to the - side of the coil and the other went to the switch wire (12v. in) at the ballast resistor. Dang, I should have taken photos.

Cool, I may sound like an idiot, but was wondering if you still use the ballast resistor...trying to keep as stock looking as possible everywhere

Thanks again

I left the ballast and just hooked the wire to switched terminal. You can see the extra wire hooked up but most people wouldn't know any difference.

I understand that some of the kits need to be hooked up to the resistor and some do not. Mine did not. It requires a 12 volt source controlled by the ign. switch. I could have ran a wire through the firewall and hooked it up to a switched source at the fusebox.

Here ya go guys. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PNX-1383/
You will need your distributor number to make sure. toolman

Just found this thread and I'm quite happy, 'cause I was thinking of converting my dual point distributor (273 4bbl Commando) to an electronic ignition - but with maintaining the ori look.

So now I'm wondering, if the posted conversion Kit is already the correct one, or do I have to modify it?

Thanks in advance!!!

I would call Pertronix and ask as their applications are kind of confusing. I would think by now they would have the Ignitor II and III available for dual point small block distributors. I know they have them for B/RB applications but they spin opposite of the SB.

FWIW I have an Ignitor II in my 318 Poly, single point conversion, and am very happy with it. I by passed the ballast and used their Flamethrower II coil as well.

I'm converting the distributor on my 67 Barracuda Commando 273 w / dual point distributor to electronic. This is an all original car that I purchased new in 1967. Distributor is Chrysler # 2642242 IBS - 4013 - A77.
Is this the same distributor as on your car that you converted? Tech rep at Pertronix told me there is no conversion for this distributor. What conversion kit did you use #1383 ?

Yes, the 1383 is the one I used on my 66 dual point. Your 67 is the same

Thanks for the info. I'll go ahead an order the #1383 conversion kit from Pertronix

I too have the IBS 4013 cast iron dual point distributor and have had multiple conflicting answers from different Pertronics reps over the phone regarding their kits.

I've been told that I need the 1383, 1385, 1385 LM, and twice told that nothing is available that will work on my distributor.

Could you please reply one more time Toolmanmike as to if you also have the IBS 4013 and if the 1383 kit worked well for you? Has anyone else tried this specific combination?

Please keep us posted Valley Boy as to your results with this combination as well.

I have a '67 Barracuda 273 Commando and am only looking for a nice serviceable electronic conversion, don't need anything fancy...

Thanks!
