What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

IT'S ALIVE!!!

My buddy came over and we broke in the cam. It started on the first turn of the key and it is running great. You have no idea how relieved I am. Put the air cleaner back on and now you can't see hardly any of my nice clean engine.

That is great, starting on the first turn of the key. You did your homework.

Yes, but that is not the final carb so it doesn't line up exactly. I decided to break it in on the old carb.

I went to a major chain auto parts store today. I asked for a 2 inch hose clamp for my car. They had to ask for what type of car. (REALLY?) What can you say at this point? I told you what I needed. So I rattled off a 1906 Buick right hand drive. V12 reverse rotation. He actually started to type it in the computer. I have no idea if they even made Buick's in 1906? I walked out and went to Lowe's:(

I asked for a 2 inch hose clamp for my 72 Dart

When I worked at Advance we had them packaged and hanging up in an aisle for walk-in customers and we had boxes in the back for commercial clients. But yeah, they always ask what car.

I went to Autozone yesterday (to spend the gift card my son gave me for Father's Day) to get an Edelbrock 1906 and the kid asked what car!!!!

Cleaned up the sharp jagged casting edges on the over the cam ovals so it is nice to work in there, now and future.

Then got to pondering . . .

8.0 to 8.5 stock compression ratio on this stock 360 short block. Maybe I should put these 318 open chamber heads on with the 360 valves installed I have here on it to boost compression closer to 9.0:1.

Good low end torque engine, I have an LD4B intake to match up to the heads, 340 SPD-22 grind Melling cam. I barely take them over 4,000 rpm. But I do like that low end torque . . 360 stroke. Spare engine for my '76 truck if I want to go hot rodding around. Or a spare engine period.

Stock '91 318 roller in the truck now. Very Happy with that, but what if ???

Hmmmm . . . .

What if . . .
318 big valve heads:

Matching up the thin .028 ths Mr Gasket 318 head gaskets on the 360 short block.

Plenty of room here:

Price of fuel, more compression equals better efficiency. More miles per gallon, if you keep your foot out of it..

Power waiting there when you need it too.
Lol . . .

Hmmmmmm . . . . .

Drove it to the store to get some supplies for the house. Needed to burn out some of the old fuel. A nice drive through the country.

Picked up these tires - wife says she wants to ride in the 72 so these will have to do for the street. Now if the wheels will just get here. Oh, and then build some type of "exhaust" to be somewhat legal.

first drive over 3 miles, drove to get tires on the rear 15 miles each way and filled the tank, fuel gauge working and didn't overheat at 95 degrees Fahrenheit. When I got home I painted trunk panel stripes. nice ride felt great.

Beautiful Car, like that whole layout.

Looking at the car from a distance kind of looks like some louvers or gills there at the side to back window where the primer is.

Would be cool to get some custom painted gills in that area, kind of suttle with not too much contrast.

Being it's a Barracuda and all.

Looks Nice

Installed new cam bearings today. Checked the fit with the Test Fit Cam.

Must be getting my install procedure down better now, no tight spots. Turned nice and easy by hand all bearings.

Keeping everything straight and true, used a little petroleum jelly as @RustyRatRod has recommended in his cam install video.

OIling holes lined up good too.

Ready for next steps now.

Yes I did.

I was surprised by how many people took pictures of the car on Friday.

10,000 miles the past two years, made it to Carlisle last year, and Illinois four times over those two years. The new owner is going to drive it and fix it, and it's local-ish, so I'll see it occasionally.
