In a 1974 Duster:
1. Do I need special motor mounts to put a Magnum 360 in where a 318 came out?
2. Will the Magnum bolt up to the original 904 auto transmission?
3. What year did Magnums go from Carburetors to Fuel Injection?

Thanks, DickJ

Can only answer 3. All Magnum were fuel injection.

  • you can use the 318 mounts on a 360, but will need spacers for the one side where it bolts to the engine..
  • yes, the 360's will bolt to the original 904. You'll need the right flexplate or converter. If 5.9 magnum and later than '96, just use the flex plate it came with for balancing. One hole will need a little ovaling. If using a 318 Magnum, no worries.
  • All magnums were FI. In fact, all LA small blocks were TBI in the last few years. There are carb intakes that fit
  • You'll need a car 360 oil pan and pickup tube
  • Your 318 timing cover, water pump and pulleys fit the magnums. You'll need the correct harmonic balancer for the 5.9

Wont the oil pan and pickup off of 318 fit the LA 360?

Adding to what @318willrun said;

If you plan to use the fuel injection you’ll have to notch the top of the bellhousing on the 904 to clear the crankshaft position sensor when you bolt it up.

Further more, the magnums don't have the provision on the cam snout for the fuel pump eccentric if you are going to run a mechanical pump. You can buy an adapting unit from Hughes for like 30 bucks, or if you cam swap you can use a roller cam with a long snout. Of course, if using an electric fuel pump, no worries.

No to fuel injection. lt sounds like a 360 LA is the easier way to go.
