Mild 360 Magnum Build

-
From front to back:

400 inch small block Chevy with CNC pro-max heads pump gas

500 inch big block Mopar with Indy heads 14 to 1

360 Magnum Stock bottom end EQ heads

I certainly wouldn't mind if you reported on all of them. When do you think results will be in for them? J.Rob

They are all getting done in the next 10 days. They just did a stock bore 340 … they claimed all 8 cylinders were sleeves that made 419 hp

Okay it’s on the Dyno…. We will spin it Wednesday evening… let the horse power torque guessing being….

Solid set up it seems, compression looks like a touch over 9:1 and that cam is going to have great low-end torque, those heads look to flow better than I'd expect. I think you will out do your goal of 375 hp, my guess is 386, but the real story is in the torque I think you will put down something like.... 447. So thats my guess 386HP/447TQ. Good Luck!

My buddy that put it together with me thinks 375hp… the guy who owns the dyno says with how good the heads flow it might go 400hp.
I’m using my 750 AED carb as the dyno shop has sold every carb they have including the 650 vac we were originally planned on using

360 magnum block.
Stock crank cut 10 thou.
Stock rods with ARP bolts.
30 over rebuilder box pistons, block decked so pistons are 50 thou down same as stock.
Cam is a lunati replacement roller
Advertised duration 276 in 284 ex
Duration at .050 210 in 218 ex
LSA 112/106
Rpm range 1200-5200
Cam was recommended by Jesse( J.Rob )on this site after I gave him the specs and intended use so I want to give him a big thanks for this!

Top end is EQ magnum heads
Valves are Chevy LS long 202 in 160 ext
Stock rockers with custom stands to lift them for the long valves.
Heads are blow ported with a bit of intake runner work, flow around 275 in and 190 ex at 500 lift.
Air gap dual plain intake
Mopar performance distributor
Ran my 750 AED carb
Add 1 inch spacer for the last pull
Did no carb jetting
39 degrees of timing…could have gone more as it picked up power ever time we added some…but I already was where I wanted to be

Best pull torque was 460 ft at 3800 rpm and 410 hp at 5100rpm….

well done!I'm surprised.
...superior to Mopar's 380 hp 360 crate engine with a smaller cam?

The cam Mopar used along with the single plane manifold really didn't compliment the unported Magnum cylinder heads especially with the low compression. They really didn't spend much time developing that I don't think. J.Rob

That’s impressive and exciting! I have a set of speedmaster aluminum heads to go on my stock 5.9 bottom end and have been filing away cam options the past couple months. This excites me for what I might be able to get out of my engine then!

Thanks so much for sharing! I will be starting a build just like this very soon. I have the same heads as you, and have been on the fence about what pistons to use.

do you know your cranking pressure in the cylinders?
What octane did you run, and what do you plan on running the engine with? I am also in Canada, and limited to 91 at best.

thanks again for sharing!

It had Co-op 91 in it only because they had another engine to do the next morning and it would save draining the tank...we did no tuning other other than timing and I know it could have went well over 40 degrees and made more power...made 400hp with no spacer and a rich A/F reading...stuck the carb spacer on it which leaned out a bit and went 410hp...and we left the shop...total time on the dyno was under 1 hour

Great job! What a sweet engine. I heard or read somewhere that the EQs and the Indy Xs aren’t available anymore? Is that true? That’s a shame if it is.

I don’t think you can get the original EQs anymore…I did see some new ones about 6 months ago and they are not the same castings
