Currently I have a good running, low mileage Magnum 300 crate motor that is plenty strong but not exactly thrilling in its current state. It certainly feels like all of the advertised 300 horsies are present but that doesn’t go as far as it used to. I’m tossing around the idea of selling this motor and swapping in a built engine.

What do you guys think of this combo? Are there any serious deficits in the parts selection? Anything that you would do differently?

Secondly, what is a fair asking price for a healthy stock drop-in ready Magnum 300? I’m not necessarily looking for top dollar. Just a decent price that will offset a chunk of a new crate motor.

Thanks for any input!

Looks like a good combo. Lets get @Johnny Mac in on this. He'll make sure you get treated right!

I bought a 408 shortblock from BPE some years back and dressed it up with TF heads - it's an amazing engine. BPE offers excellent service, quality, and customer care. I honestly can't say enough good about them. They stand behind their work, and their work is amazing. Everything was immaculately clean, well prepped, excellent hardware used throughout, obvious care in their work, and great finishes on every machined surface - even the cast iron surfaces looked brand new and unused.

Several years after my BPE engine I did a rebuild with a local shop (trying to stay cheap). What I received at the end was a sloppy mess. It worked, there were no major issues, but the amount of oozed sealant on the core plugs and sloppy nature of their work in general (greasy palm prints all over the outside, over-application of lube around the valve stems, oozed sealant around manifolds and seals, etc) made me truly appreciate what BPE does. It also backfired, because while the shop-built engine stayed together, it did not end up significantly cheaper and it took months. I would have been better off just buying another from BPE!

Thanks fellas!
Yes this engine is a real street bruiser. The roller cam and valve train is what sells it for me. Plus the 30 month warranty and the fact we dyno it here. Lots of guys on the board here with this exact engine. I will say order early....the world is kind of upside down with parts shortages right now. I just ordered in some cams to test last week, but we still use an edelbrock head casting on these, and those are taking a while with the comp merger.

You might want to give them a call. I spoke to them about 3 months back and they had no plans to do any 408 magnum long or short blocks for the foreseeable future.

I can't see how you could go wrong with this thing for the price and warrenty...it would be tough for a local shop to compete building something similar...It would be nice if we had a Canadian distributor

One of the other guys on here just did a Scamp build with a BP stroked motor. I would reach out to him. Fred scagliono (sp?) He just hammered for about a 1000 mile round trip to the big show in Minneapolis. MITP. Thing purrs like a cat.

any details on that motor? like to put something a little more mellow in our dart.

We have put a hold on short blocks, of ANY make for the time being. LONGBLOCKS however...we never stopped making. not sure where that came from, but it's inaccurate. We still gladly offer several flavors of mopar longblock, and complete, mopar 408 engines. We even offer some complete 408/727 packages all pre-assembled, shipped in one big crate.
Chrysler Compatible Engine / Transmission Combos

We're fighting parts shortages like any other company, but we have offered a 408 Mopar for several decades, and still do.

@Johnny Mac
How many days does it take to ship a part that is in stock? I ordered a R2R distributor and harmonic balancer at the beginning of the week and the tracking info says I'll be notified when my order is ready. Ready for shipment? In stock?
If these items aren't in stock it doesn't say so. Just curious about how long it takes for an item to leave the facility.

If it's in stock, usually pretty quick, but we did just upgrade computer systems, so we were flying blind on small parts orders for a bit. you can PM me your order #, and I can see where it's at.

As well as my Blue Print engine worked out it's worth the wait and wouldn't hesitate to order another if I were doing another build.
Almost 5,000 miles on mine After 2 years and living in North Dakota it's nothing to drive 200 miles to a car show and back home for the day. I drive my Scamp it's not a tailor Queen.

I am not biased or anything but here is another look at Fred’s car, the “ Hemi” version! I can certainly attest to the fact Fred drives the wheels off of it. Pix is at my shop, five hour drive from his place.

Cannot wait for my engine to get here! Seems like the camshaft shortage bit my build hard. I call every month or so for an update. I can't imagine how you guys have room on your floor to store all of those partially built engines that are waiting on parts now! First it was the Edelbrock heads, now the cams. Wow! Guess good things come to those who wait!

Yup! The cam issue is on my list for sure. Will have one here next week, and see how it does. Appreciate you waiting. I have about 50 sb mopars awaiting parts....you can imagine the Gm's and ford numbers.... but we are doing everything we can. I promise

A bit off topic but that is a beautiful German Shepard.
Thanks, Fred brings Hemi treats so she does not eat him! Rescued European K9 she has been my constant companion for years. She is getting white muzzled and don’t jump so good anymore but what a great dog. 95-105 pounds depending on season.

Shipped! Tracking sent via email. Check spambox

Thanks for the prompt service!

Sincere thanks J Mac for being a great vendor! Guys like you and Denny and several others on here walk the walk.

Ditto. Feels so nice to be able to reach out to a vendor and actually get a response in just a few minutes.

Do you offer any 318 or 5.2 crates? If not any plans for lesser HP engines?
