Demon 340 six pack factory?

-
Did not Mr. Norm sell a Paxton super charged Demon? Not that has anything to do with a 6 pac!
We all know Mr. Norm sold lots of after market speed part plus all that also came from the Mopar Factory. Adding a 6 pac would just be another sale for ole Norm.
As said above, yup!

I just don't get it. Sure I can appreciate a great factory restoration, but Barrett Jackson and the numbers matching crowd has so many folks drinking the Kool-aid of "It has to be original to be of any value". Anybody could walk into a dealership and buy a 340 A-body, where was the craft in that? I'm glad all of my Darts started life as 318 2bbl cars because nobody cares what I choose to do with them. How fast they go and how cool they look is totally a result of my hot rodding imagination... Having a 6 pack 340 A-body should be a badge of honor, especially if you can get the set up to run well, partly because nobody made that combination for you.

Before the so called muscle car there was the hot rod. You made that existing car faster, or cooler, or more than what the factory built. Then came the high performance muscle car, faster, cooler, better than the average car so to grandma and your dad. All you had to do was take the great package they gave you and make it as you want , cooler wheels, tires, tack, gauges, more carb, better intake. whatever.
Fast forward to today. You have the numbers BJ cool aide drinkers, and you have the BJ RetoMod guys, both great cars generally and two different ducks.
I see different skills to either build a hot road, restore an original car, or rebuild mechanicals, build competative race cars, or do body/paint.

Yeah. Everyone thinks I'm hack that goes too slow. :)

If you want it done right and looking good, then time is all you have. Because time is what it takes to get it done. Anything done fast is probably not going to be good or up to spec.

I owned a GSS in the 80's it was an H code. I bought it from the owner of "Charlie Chips" in Catasauqua Pa. The car was a bench seat auto on column. When I got the car it had a TA motor. John destroyed the motor under warranty and the dealer put a TA motor in the car. When I bought it I didn't know how rare it was. I scraped the decals off the rear windows I thought they were from a dodge truck.

I put 72 interior in it and auto on floor. I yanked the motor and gave it to my wife she drove it with a 318, The guy who bought the motor researched the vin that the dealer stamped on the motor . He came back and begged me for the car. I had no clue why so I remarried the motor back to the car. 3 days later he called me and told me his son was killed in the car. So there could only be 49 left.

It did have a TA340 in the car with the vin from the Demon. The car was b5 with hounds tooth interior factory tach. manual disc brakes. The six pack and aluminum air cleaner was in the trunk when I bought it I installed a 4bbl. I know they didn't come wit TA motors but this Demon had one.

Yeah I left the best one go. I sold it around 86 after my son was born and my dad was killed after I bought him a 58 Fury. I saw the Fury at Carlisle used to make a Christine

Dam that really sucks ^
Could have been anyone of us.

Got hit or hit something, can't tell from the picture.

Sorry about your dad.

He hit a rock in a field racing a Charger. The father had a shift kit put in the trans that day. We found out later after installing the trans in another car that when flat out in second gear and shifting to drive it would lock up the trans. Luckily the son in law didn't hit anything. He was getting on the interstate and kick it into passing gear when it happened. The father bought my 72 Challenger and had the trans valve body installed.

Sad story to say the least. I do have a question. You mention there could be only 49 left. Are you referring to GSS Demons or the TA engine or ?? If GSS Demons, where do the numbers come from? I am curious as I have never seen a number come from Norms as to how many were converted. Thank you for your time.

I agree, for the most part, with your post. I respect anybody that puts a sixpack on anything, because of the investment in the cost of the system, and the effort to make it run right. No problems with a sixpack in anything .
However, the point of this thread was a guy claiming a FACTORY sixpack demon, with what was almost certainly a 318 car.
That is the kind of crap most of us have a problem with.

I guess that was my point - what seems to motivate people making such a claim is the idea that modified cars have no value, so they claim that the car came that way from the factory. I'm proud that I built up a 318 family car into a 340 with a streetable dual quad crossram induction. This guy should be proud if what he has and not feel he has to lie about it for his car to be cool.

I was always told only 50 were built. The way I came to find out about what my car was, Was the engine. The father knew it was a 340 TA motor. The vin matched the car. After we were aware of what the car was I did some research . The car had the Ram sticker on the Passenger side rear window I scraped off.

The six pack and aluminum finned air cleaner were in the trunk. I went back to the original owner and he confirmed the car was a Mr. Norms car bought at Keystone Dodge in Allentown. They were a race team that owned The 1970 "Poison Dart". I Knew John the service rep at Keystone. He confirmed the car and the story from the owner.

Believe me to this day I wish I would have never sold the car. I believe the body of the car may still be at Tony Hirshman's auto salvage/Troyers race car shop in Northampton Pa. The car was on top of several other cars due to the smell I could not keep it at my shop. His lower leg was rolled up in the floor. You could see the bone sticking out.

Originally the Steering wheel was up against the passenger A-pillar until they cut the roof off. There were two 17 yr olds in the car. one survived but was paralyzed.

I found the Factory tach 1/8 mile down the road. Notice the Gas cap was stolen . Yeah they were already rare back then.

I may be a bit old, but pretty sure E44 code is 318 2 bbl. Plenty of those built.
G -Code. I had one with an OE Rochester 2 bbl carb 1971 Dodge Demon Top Banana yellow with a black vinyl top, houndstooth black interior with bench seat, Dodge wheel covers and 2 speed wipers with pump. My first car bought in 1989 for $2200 with 44,000 miles. Drove it for 7 years putting on 40,000 miles and sold it for $2200 and a lot more rust.

Hornstooth? That must have been Texan car . And I'll bet those seats were painful on a bumpy road.

Thanks for the info. I have heard of a couple dozen, but never as many as 50. I am gathering the parts to put mine back to stock.

In 1971 you could order a 340 Demon from Mr. Norm's in Chicago and authorize them to put a six pack on it. There never was a true factory 340 Demon.

nope, no factory 360 six packs, but i did meet a guy at a car show whose uncle had a 69 demon with a 440 hemi sixpack with camel heads right from the factory
it even came with a posi rear end

:poke:
Demons were a two year line, 1971-72. In 1973 they became Dart Sports. Never was such a thing as a '69 Demon.

Jim, I think you missed my point

None of that description I gave made any sense, but you can't spend much time at a car show and not run into that guy who claims someone he knew (usually his uncle) had one growing up

Freakin A! That and how his OE factory optioned 469 HEMI ripped the asphalt apart in the AMC Pacer back in ‘76.

Yes, there were true 340 Demons, just not factory 340 6 pack Demons as factory equipped. I assume that is what you meant.

Yup, the factory 6 pack was the 440 six pack,340 was an aftermarket add on, can still get the intake and carbs today, but it will cost ya...
