Silliest Thing You Ever Put On Your Mopar ?

-
Replacing my stock radio antenna for a cb radio style short antenna with 3 coils part way down! That I thought was such an amazing custom touch!! Now think it was corny. Also saw in an old issue of mopar action, a 1969 dodge charger had its sway bar painted bright yellow. So I get some rattle can yellow and spray my dart sports sway bar. Boy I thought that was cool! Not!

gotta confess, I put a 9 inch open chrome air cleaner on my '71 'Cuda and it had a paper element.
also had a 12' air horn on it with a foam top covered with a screen.
But i thought they were cool in '71

In high school I pin striped my 67 Furys 318 valve covers. I did a nice job, repainted them orange first and used a real pin stripers brush with white and black stripes and curly ques. At least no one could see it. That is until it was at a service station and the mechanic popped the hood. I can still hear him and his grease monkeys guffaws as I was driving away with my mom.

Same 67 Fury as above, my buddies and I were always catching the attention of the local police so in defiance I hung a pair of police issue hand cuffs from my rear view mirror.
All's fine until one night while cruising my friend riding up front is acting like a cat in a trap, with his wrist in a cuff and trying to yank my mirror loose! I told him I didn't have any keys (really didn't ) and would have to drop him off at the police barracks lol!
We actually were able to get the pin out of the cuffs hinge and free him.

[QUOTE="dartfreak75, post: 1973563220, member: 21894"While at autozone one day picking up some parts I saw a set of "fog lights" i thought that would be cool! So I bought them and put them on the car alot with fuzzy dice and 8 ball door locks. I kept them on there for years thinking they was cool. Now that I'm older and wiser I can look back and see how ugly they were lol but at the time I liked them!

Liked your comment and reminds me of something that is currently fashionable and that is similar to comment on your fog lights.

I'm sure my comment will raise some hackles - so don't take it personal

In my opinion these "LED Light bars" fall in the same category and folks will someday be saying the same thing you did.... Enjoy!

I agree 100%!! I think i can see in certain situations how those light bars would be useful. On a farm truck or a hunting rig I get them they are bright as crap and would be very useful looking for a lost calf or wounded animal at night or an offroad unit where you need to see the offroad trail better,, but these concrete cowboys that cover them all over a truck is just stupid lol

You guys are killing me! I forgot about the Cal Custom stuff. How about JC Whitney? I know some of you use that catalog.

Putting this sticker on my van....

Seemed like a good idea at the time:rolleyes:

I use to love JCW. They had all the the husker does and husker dont's. They use to carry really nice A body leaf springs. Still have a pair on my 65 Dart. They were inexpensive to. Unfortunately they don't carry them any longer.

The good old days when you filled out an order form and sent a check or money order. Then in a month you got your stuff. I did a lot of C.O.D. orders to. Times have sure changed.

Lots of silly going on here. What was I thinking? in 1973

Look close... See if you can spot them all. not counting the smoke.LoL
One you can see is in the car. The heater box had two hi-jackers bunny stickers with the word hi-jackers trimmed off the bottom and overlapped to look side by side "Wacin' Wabbits".

Great topic.
I graduated in 1983 when my '69 Dart was just a 14 year old used car.
Oddly enough, NOW my own newest vehicle is a 14 year old 2007 Ram 1500!
In the 80s, people did things to their cars, man. Leaf spring shackles, air shocks, sun visors on the top of the windshield, unusually long antennas, CB radios, curb feelers, cheap and ineffective fog lights and maybe even an old style OOooOOOGa! horn!
Me? I had the leaf spring shackles and air shocks. That is it.

Back in the late 80's I bought a 65 dart from a friend dad for $100. My buddy and I decided to "customize it". Lowered it to the weeds, flat black paint with white scallops down the hood and fenders. Than added this to the interior.

Yeah, the 'wink-em' mirrors! Neon wiper spoilers, 6" tall rubber antennas, pink/green/blue/purple hughed H4 headlights? I'm innocent as charged 'cept the shackles and air shocks. Came with the 65 Barracuda due to the 10" Pos-A-Traction tires on the back that extended out the wheel wells.

My car is to embrace all of the stuff everybody is talking about... My car is exactly the way I would have wanted it in high school... Fuzzy dice, check... Dice door lock caps, check... Slapper bars, check.. dual quad tunnel ram, check... 4 speed, check... Glass packs, check... Custom alligator skin bucket seats, check...
This car has always been a toy and always will be..

That's exactly what I'm wanting to do with my challenger. Im wanting to do a 80s themed muscle car. I want it to look like it would have if a 20 something would have owned and raced in in 1986 lol im thinking tunnel ram center line wheels and some plush seat covers. And all the stuff mentioned here! Lol

Mine is a 73 and my brain set when I try to do stuff for it is 1978... This would have been the height of the Disco era and some really funky stuff...

in high school I had a garter belt on steering wheel mounted tach. I actually got the belt from a girl (that is all, honest). So not so bad.

If I was single now, would I find a garter belt for my steering wheel mounted tach?

I remember those "Wink" mirrors! They looked silly but were quite effective.
