600 hp 318?

-
Yeah everyone is trying to be an internet personality...ever see the car videos where the guy is walking around his garage, holding the camera or go pro in his face yapping and yammering etc. Its like... just point the camera under the hood and show the viewer the work being done...

I think it proves you don't need to find 340/360 blocks that can be costly, or do a B/RB/Hemi/LS swap to have a 10 second car.

360’s are cheap around here.

That's the thing with people like the guy with the car in question. By saying its "just a 318" he gives the illusion it's a simple, maybe even economical build that somehow showcases a "special" combination and gets everyone clicking his video. If he said it was a "full race CNC ported stroker race engine " nobody would even look twice

Oh yeah, not an uncommon occurrence. Reminds me in the mid 90's reading an article about a guy with a Honda CRX that was faster than a new 1996 305hp Mustang Cobra. Then you see the engine is built, ported head, H Beam rods, forged Pistons, and a big turbo. But it was just a lowly CRX.....

600hp? dreaming....If he's 3300lbs and runs 10.70's he's either 5 10ths off for 600hp or he's@535hp@10.70's working on ET, shame he didn't mention the mph no matter what size the motor is.
I ran the same car with an all iron 440sp motor back in the day with a single 850DP, same weight and went a best of 10.71@125mph=535fwhp.

I think it runs high 10.90s and its probably lighter than 3300lbs. It is a full on race car

Does this nasty little beast belong to a member here? Sounds like a well put together combination. Didn’t mention what stroke however.

Found the answer, 408ci

Doesn't sound that impressive to me, no dyno sheet and no ET time slip either so its all just B.S. basically and as is proven more times than not once these local legends hit the track and get that dreaded time slip they then slither off back into their hole as they are too embarrassed to try and explain why it's so slow. Also its not a 318, complete nonsense to even state it as such......it's a 408 period, makes no difference how you got there.

Barely over 500 hp then if thats the ET and that would be with a well sorted out rest of the car......600 .....LOLOLOLOL.....maybe 600 is easier to say than 500?

Interesting comparison! Thanks for posting that. Looks like the main saddles are pretty different to me. Reminds me of the differences in big blocks on the 440source site.

I think PRH hit the nail on the head (somewhat).... this guy should have started with "just a 400" IMO lol.

Who pissed in your Cheerios?
The guy has a nice hot rod and goes on YouTube to show it off and explain what he’s done to it, and you have to cut him down for it? Why?

he started with a stock stroke 318 and was close to 500 hp before up grading stroke n bore,...but yall all blew right past all that to after he upgraded it!!

Really? I never saw anything about that. He said it's never been on a dyno, how did he figure his "500" horsepower? What did it run with the stock stroke 318?

I haven't seen anyone "cut anyone down" I think he was pointing out the times the car runs doesn't indicate anywhere near 600 hp is all.

What does the title of the video in first post say??? I thought that's what the topic of this thread was - a 600hp "318".

It’s like the kid that pitted next to me at T&T the other night. He had a nice newer Mustang and a smokin’ hot girlfriend without a lot on. Over the course of the night we had several conversations. He was telling me about his past races there and about how a buddy of his had a 1200hp Mustang that out ran him. At the time he had 600+ hp, so I asked what he had now? With a straight face he said 960, naturally aspirated 5.0, with a tune of course. He was running low 9’s in the 1/8!

Did I mention his GF was smokin’ hot? She was ragin on him because I had ran 6.28 with a .019 light. LOL

Thinking maybe I'd like to build a 318 and have it dyno'd... I have a 5.2 on the stand, and a LA roller from Drag Truck. Keep it fairly budget friendly, home-brewed, and see if it will turn 400 hp on pump gas with a "decent" idle. And.... most importantly it seems.... keep it a 318 !!

That's been done, it's not that hard to achieve those numbers. But 600 hp.... not as easy as some youtubers make it out to be

Low 9's in the 1/8 ??? That's about stock fox body numbers.... and really slow if we're talk'n Coyote...

I agree, it wouldn't be ground breaking. But still, a 400 hp true 318 on pump gas with a relatively low budget could be a nice template for many of others. Of course, I'd list every part number used so it would be easy for anyone to follow.

But you just posted he made "close to" 500 hp with his previous combination, so I was asking what YOU base that on.
theres post on here in the 318 arguments of this car and its accomplishments, and ive read his comments on some of his youtube post,...didnt write it down or copy it to prove what he has said or done,..but your welcome to do your own research and read all that and do as you wish,...ive better things to do with my time....

I did, and everything I have posted in this thread is based on what he claims, and the results. The car doesn't make anywhere near 600 horsepower, that's kinda the point of the thread, people make big claims but that pesky physics allways tells the truth.
