Today’s score came with a nice visit with a gentleman who had a few more gray hairs than me. I had a 12 Hour drive today on my way home from work so I did a little shopping on the way. I grabbed a pair of 68 Dart low back bucket seats and the rear seat and the console and a 69 A 833. Shortly there after I stopped and grabbed a set of 72 challenger buckets. These were from three different locations so I had three nice little visits today to break up the drive. I spent the most time getting the four-speed though. We talked about his 2 69 340 4speed darts he owned in the past. Of course that was when he was 19! So needless to say the first one was wrecked which caused this transmission to be in his garage for the last 40 years. And the second one got parts of the drivetrain eventually lost the 340 turned into a 360 etc. etc. and life went on. A 12 Hour drive makes for a long day but breaking it up three times with little Mopar visits makes it well worth it! The parts I am very happy with. The new acquaintances even more so. This was a $1000 venture, but overall it was priceless!

What is laying in the bottom of the trans ?

Nice score!

He took parts and pieces of this trans for his other trans years ago. there is one of the balls for the shifter detent and I’m not sure what the other little pieces are called. I need a front bearing retainer a small shift or fork and a few other little titbits for this baby.
The seats could be 67, I’m not sure. But these pieces are going into a 68 barracuda now.

The seat ARE 1967 Dart GT, not '68. Frames and backs are very different.

Thank you Jim. Do the tracks mount in the same holes or do I need to drill new ones? "Correct" is not relevant to this car. Would 67 Barracuda foam and covers fit these frames?

Yes, they will fit in the same holes and the frames are the same for the '67 Barracuda so foam and upholstery will fit.

Thanks Randy. I lucked out on all of it. The prices were way more than fair. Now Shane, my son, and I are gonna start doing some work to the 68. It's been a long stand still, but when I told him about the trans he started talking about the body work! I never really wanted to do a 4 speed.......but I guess I'm gonna learn now. I already have linkages, hump, I think z-bar etc. I just need a housing and the right driveshaft. The gentleman I got the trans from is gonna do some digging and see if he can round up a 340 through his connections. It was a great day. But my *** is sore!

Oh ya, I also picked up a warranty / replacement 010, 020, 1971 Chevy 350 4 bolt main block, but nobody cares about that. :)

You got some nice lookin stuff! I love meetin new people too. That's the most fun part to me!

Yes Sir. I agree. Brian, the 4 speed guy, will be a friend for life now. The world is small. The Challenger seat guy knew people I know.

Man, at today's prices, that was a great score, however, in my humble opinion, talking to an old timer, and getting some memories is Priceless! Great Job! Thank You!

Thanks Kim. I agree. I haven't been inside a transmission since high school. That was just a few years.......decades ago! The gears look to be in great shape. A good over haul, a few parts and it should be good to go.

Yes, the visit was great. We chatted about his time with his two cars and how he wrecked the first one. I believe it was black with a red strip and interior. What a beauty that would have been. That was back when he lived in Ontario. He has been over here in Alberta for years now. Then we talked about where this trans is going and the parts I still need. He threw in an old Motors book that has the info I need on the trans along with all the cars of the era. We actually knew mutual people as well. The world is small.

Cool finds, George!
I'll have to come over and have a look see.
How come I never get any good deals like you?
Lol

The best deal is, I know someone who can help me out with knowledge!

oh, and I did have to travel from the top of Alberta to the bottom in order to get these!

So, you're going to get Rob to come over and help you?
I've been on a few road trips myself over the years, I met some good people (and bad), but it was all worth it!

I enjoy hearing these kind of ventures, makes for a humble and happy day you was blessed with George, happy for you bud
