Hello new member first post outside the welcome section threads. I have a 72 duster that came from the factory with manual steering. I bought the cat as a rolling chasis and it has a lot of nice suspension and chasis upgrades. Interestingly it has an electric power steering unit which works pretty well when I hooked up but I don't think I want to use it. I am planning on a 408 with manual transmission and I think it will interfere with a clutch. The car is factory automatic but looking at 4 speed car pictures inthinknthe electric motor under the dash will interfere. I also plan to get a flaming river colum qith tilt. To get to my question I plan on using one of the new more compact borgenson ps units and was wondering if anyone has one of those installed with tti headers and could give me some guidance on clearances with that set up. Also has anyone used one of those units with a flamingnriver column? Thanknyounin advance

i dont want to get your thread off track but i would like to know more about your electric power steering assist . maybe i can pm you ?

I just pulled it out of the car and will post some pics. The car had been a racer and the previous owner who I didn't meet had a 440 shoehorn in it. He took it out to use it in a charger I believe. So it makes since why he wanted the electronic power steering too me. I bought it at hodge mopar restoration in Spartanburg sc. I used to live down there and had followed his shop on Facebook. He has some amazing stuff and is a top notch guy. He wasn't sure about the specifics on the unit but said he had seen them before. It is made by koyo and is stamped Mitsubishi electronic corp.

2 things..

A 440 in an Abody is not a shoehorn fit.

Electric powersteering is very viable and BMW uses it on their MC line

I'd check TTI site and they are accessible by phone if you need more info or clarification.

I may be exaggerating a little bit on the 440 being shoehorned Certainly if that engine was still in the car I would leave it but it got taken out to put in a charger by the PO. I now the electronic steering units are reliable in a lot of major manufacturers and my wife's last car actually had one and I couldnt tell the difference in it and my traditional power steering ram 1500. I really want a manualntransmissiin and the way this thing is grafted into the column I don't see how on earth a clutch pedal could clear it. I can do basic welding and fabricating but don't thinkni could modify a clutch pedal adequately to clear it and get the right geometry. Also I really want a tilt column as I like to drive with the wheel near straight up and down. I am waiting to hear back from flaming river on which column would work best with a borgensen steering box as they seem shorter than a factory power steering box front to back length wise.

Isn’t the power steering unit in the gas peddle side of the column?
Yes the motor unit cants toward the fuel pedal which is another problem as my size 14 shoe hits it. The central body of the unit where it interfaces the column is pretty thick and the PO removed some of the metal bracketing to get it to fit over where the clutch would go. Not a lot of metal perhaps about a 1/4 inch strip. I will post some pictures of that mod later this evening when I get home.

@BergmanAutoCraft will have some intel for you

The small block TTI header with this box doesn’t create any issue. Let me know exactly which column you’d like and I’ll be happy to price it for you.
Awesome thank you for the reply! I definately want a tilt column just haven't decided on stainless or black powder coat. I will contact you in the next day or two. I am going to be out of town on buisness tomorrow but will be in touch
