Upper Control Arms

OK so how does the PST ones compare to the QA1 and how much do you want for the QA1's with the small ball joint?
and yes I know my first question was about the big ball joints
I was planning on going with the PST LCA rebuild kit.
I did QA1 uppers and rebuilt LCA's with PST components and MOOG small ball joints. It all worked out very well. Caster is now 3.5* all I need for the street.

As of know we only offer A body control arms with large upper ball joints (73-76 A body disc brake spindles). We off these in either fixed tubular or adjustable tubular. Both are made in the USA and are eligible for the members discount. Please let me know if you have any questions.

ok I'll be getting the LCA rebuild kit Torsion Bars I'm still undecided about UCA because I'm not ready to do the disc conversion yet

I think they are pretty reasonable and IMO they are better. They do include bushings and ball joints and they are angled for improved caster. If I can get them cheaper, I will. If not, I'll get them as reasonably as possible.

Yes and No.
There has been horror stories of these control arms breaking through the years. Never have I heard that about a factory control arm. So careful what you wish for.

Don't remember the brand. Just remember reading through the years about tubular upper control arm failures.
I do remember something about it. I don't remember the brand either.......but come to think of it, I might. Seems like it was Magnum Force. I could be mistaken, but I think that was it.

He is. Peter runs a good business and has some great parts that he makes that no one else does. I've done business with him on several occasions, both on stuff he makes exclusively and stuff he's just a retailer for. Other than the shipping being a little longer because he's on the completely opposite coast from me, I've had no issues. And he's been helpful whenever I've had questions about his products.

That is not to say that we see eye to eye on everything, but that's true for pretty much everyone now isn't it?

Sounds like you have the right plan though, don't forget some greaseable LCA pivot pins if you're going to use poly LCA bushings. They do need to be lubricated, and having the ability to do it later if you have to is very handy.

I wanted to come back to this thread and say I have talked to Peter since this and he is indeed a stand up guy. I have purposely held off on any suspension progress, because I am going to go with his LCA pins and delrin bushings. I just have to scrape the dough up, but I will be doing business with Peter.

The kind words are much appreciated.

On the Torsion Bars whats the difference in the rubber or Polygraphite seals since it's just to keep in the grease correct is it worth the extra for the Polygraphite
How much it the member discount on orders?

I'm still using my originals 1968. I think rubber will last long enough. JMO

Anything to be worried about going with the Classic Industries front suspension rebuild kit for a '72 Dart? Car is bone stock suspension wise, just wanting to refresh the front end.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Other than having no idea who the actual manufacturer of the parts is?

And if you're changing the UCA bushings, it's best to use offset bushings (Moog K7103) so that you can add some positive caster. Unless you're running bias-ply tires. Those won't come in one of those kits.

That's what I was getting at- I searched before asking the question, couldnt find anything relevant.

I've heard mixed opinions on Moog lately but when I piece together the kit on RockAuto, there are lots of Moog parts.

Basically looking to rebuild the front end with quality parts that wont break the bank.

Preciate the input.

The best luck I've had lately is with stuff made by proforged. Pretty much everything Moog has been terrible for awhile, the only exception for that being the offset UCA bushings. And Moog is the only one making those as far as I know.

Here's a list of rebuild parts that should fit your car that are made by proforged, the have LCA bushings, tie rod ends and lower ball joints, plus a few other things. Not everything but it's a good start.

Ok gotcha, I've seen Proforged so will probably use them for some of the parts. I also saw that PST makes a front end rebuild kit, any thoughts on that one?

PST is a vendor here, so they do offer a 10% discount to FABO members. But in similar fashion to Classic they're not a manufacturer, just a retailer. You can contact them about the actual manufacturers of the parts they use in their kits. Personally, I don't buy kits. A big part of that is my cars are not 100% factory, so kits pretty much always contain duplicates or parts I can't use . The other part of that is I'd rather spend a little more money to make sure I get parts that are made by the manufacturers I want, because lately that can mean the difference between the parts actually fitting or not (even if they're allegedly for the right application). Some guys like the simplicity of the kits, but for my money I'd rather source the individual parts so I know what I'm getting. Just my opinion.

Nice of u to put a full list together for us :)

The Moog stuff I bought seems of good quality… so did the Pro Forged. Also the Mevotech stuff seemed good quality. All of those are on my front end build, including ACDelco lower control arm bushings. All of it was way better than the stuff I took off, and to me that is all that matters on a weekend cruiser.

Now, for 72blunblu, and others that daily drive their cars there will be a noticeable difference in how long parts last, so keep that in mind, but if you are not needing much more than stock rebuild or even going slightly out of the realm of stock most parts will suffice in my opinion, unless you really plan to put some miles on it.

Ya, that is not too special and I am guessing I will end up getting QA1 uppers for the caster too. Rebuilt the stock 73 uppers for now and once I see what numbers I get on my alignment I bet you my rake will bite me in the as on caster.
