New member with what appears to be a Mexican valiant super bee.

Like the title says, I bought the car thinking it was a demon. Went up to check it out and realized the vin was not nearly as long as a US vin for these cars would look like. After speaking with the owner I he tells me the car was imported from Mexico years back by his brother and then he restored it here. So here I am trying to see if anyone has had any experience with these so called valiant super bees?

Yes what you were told sounds legitimate.

Both Duster and Demon equivalent depending on year, we’re sold under the same Dodge Valient Super Bee name. I have seen 2 Duster equivalents in person, but only have seen the Demon equivalent in pics.

Yours has dual scoops and hood mounted Dixco tach, which I interested was factory option.

1970s Mexican Valiant Super Bee
The story behind the Super Bee Valiant is that it was built as Chrysler Mexico’s early-’70s, cost-effective alternative to the brand new generation of Challengers and ‘Cudas that were introduced in 1970. Different from Dodge’s “Super Bee” here on the home soil, the Mexican variant was based on Chrysler’s A-body platform. From ’70-72, the Super Bee Valiant shared the same front and rear with the Duster, but from ’73-’75, the Valiant received the Dodge Dart’s front-end while maintaining the Duster’s rear. The Valiant would be returned to the Duster/Valiant body for the 1976 production year.

Between 1970 and ’74, the Super Bee Valiant was offered with Chrysler’s 318 V8, producing 270bhp, and for ’76, the Super Bee would be offered with a 300-horse version of Chrysler’s 360 V8. Horsepower ratings from Mexico, at that time, were higher than they were here in the U. S., but that’s because Mexico’s anti-pollution laws were not nearly as strict as they were here in America.

1970s Mexican Valiant Super Bee
In 1970, Chrysler of México introduced the sport model Valiant Super Bee. Unlike the American Dodge Super Bee, the mexican version was based on the Chrysler A-Body platform. The Valiant Super Bee was mate of the Valiant Duster and the Dodge Dart. In Mexico officially never existed the Plymouth brand and Plymouth models were sold under the Dodge brand. The Valiant Super Bee was equipped with the 318 V8 engine with 270 horse power from 1970 to 1974 and 1975 to 1976 with the 360 V8 engine with 300 horse power.This engines have more power in Mexico than in U.S.A. because mexican anti-pollution Laws were not as strict as in the US. As well as its cousins the Dodge Dart and Valiant Duster. With the years they only received minor changes as new grilles and rear panels and tail lights. This first generation was produced from 1970 to 1976. In 1976, Chrysler introduced the new F-Body cars: Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare, and the Aspen R/T and Volare Road Runner as its Sports versions.

Im sure the demon variant did not exist in Mexico correct? As the demon badges were added by the previous owner so I’m assuming the correct badging (atleast for the doors) would of said super bee. And as for fender badges I’ve looked around and all the pictures and info I’ve been able to find points to having what looks to be an engine CID badge but that’s about it.

Agreed, Super Bee was the Badging used, but the rest of the car was in effect what we call a Demon. I edited my original post, it now provides some additional insight as to the fact depending on year it had a Duster or Dart front clip, therefore what we know as a Demon. Also the tail panel, did also match the Demon tail panel on years paired with the Dart front end.

Right on, now I wonder why some one would convert it in to a demon tribute. Because I know it’s going to be near impossible to find the correct super bee badges. I guess it’s staying a demon for now until my next trip to Mexico to hunt them down.
 
what área exactly was it located in? That car seems familiar. Looks like a car I tried to purchase last year. Interestingly enough my car came from Jalisco aswell.

Here is a cool thread about a Super Bee with lots of cool info and pics. You will note there is a pic which includes a Super Bee Demon equivalent, if not mistaken a 1972, which would make perfect sense because the 1972 American Demon had come out with it’s design changes, so easy for basically the same model to also be offered in Mexico with little to no effort in making changes.

Might of been the same one then, the one I saw had the hood mounted tach painted black. The hood was missing the valiant script badge though I remeber because you would see where the badge used to sit it was very faded.

Thank you for the link. Spent the whole night looking through it and navigating the forum trying to find any more posts with anything related to these super bees and from what I see info on these is pretty limited.

Thank you hope it’s not the last either. Seems like everyone in this forum is very nice. This is my first mopar, I’ve only owned mustangs and still have a few and I’ve been on mustang forums and people there are very sarcastic and unwilling to help or even hold a conversation. So thank you for that.

Not sure if anyone can tell from the dash picture I posted but it appears that the dash came with a voltmeter from factory instead of the ammeter. sadly the whole cluster is shot and the voltmeter gauge was replaced with a poorly ghetto rigged aftermarket gauge. I also noticed the spedo is not a 240 kph gauge it only goes up to 160. makes me wonder if it was an actual superbee or just a regular valiant duster And the circuit that runs the cluster is different too to accommodate the volt meter gauge wiring. the more i dive in to fixing the issues this car has the more I find out about it.

That sounds pretty normal, the more you look at fixing it, the more you find that needs to be fixed.
