That's a goodun. I understand Tom Selleck was given at least one working replica gun.
 
I am fortunate enough to own and compete with a 1874 Sharps Creedmoor. They are simply a work of art. The pix attached are me trying to dial in a new rear “Soule” tang sight. It is literally period correct. In fact the parts can interchange with original. If you look close, on the one pix you can see the cartridge. I load my own as most folks do that shoot these. I am rocking a 405 grain bullet!

Is that your private indoor range? Never seen one that long.
My Shiloh Sharps would stack five 540gr Creedmore bullets into one hole at 100 yards. That rifle was a work of art. I regret letting it go but the car needs parts.

I wish, it is a public range where I work as an RSO and instructor. It is underground 100 meters 6 lanes wide. You can shoot all winter in comfort.
 
How hard is it to hit (see?) a buffalo sized target at 860m? My best grouping at 500m was ~12" with an iron sight M16A2. My worst was offhand. That contest would be fun. The 500m target on a USMC range is man sized and the sight post is wider than the target.
 
The seven ring on a Palma target is 60 inches in diameter. We shoot at 800 900 and 1,000 yards from prone with iron sights. With the right size aperture’s it’s not that hard to see. Hitting it in the wind is a different story even with a .308

Sounds the same as I remember from Basic Training at Ft. Polk (LA). You aimed for a head shot at 500m and the associated bullet drop would hit the target somewhere in the abdomen area.
The shooting was the most fun of Basic.
Being National Guard I had to qualify with both the M16A2 and the M14.
