Being 'Old School' makes it difficult to hold my tongue at times...

-
Six years ago I started a new job after staying at home for a year following taking an early retirement.
I didn't like staying home and figured the new job would help finance my '69 Dart build.
I found something I wanted to do and was hired immediately following my initial interview. I'd previously spent over 25 years in management but didn't want to deal with the hassles of management any more.
Today (Friday), the COO is on vacation so our manager said we can knock off work today 2.5 hours early. I heard him tell someone else he's heading to Las Vegas after work.
There's only 3 of us in the office today so, being 'old school' I decided not to take my lunch break today and work straight through to the early quitting time.
The other guy in the office ended up leaving 1.5 hours before the early quitting time...taking his lunch break plus an additional 30 minutes and nothing was said.
If I was still 'management' he wouldn't have done that and we would be here for the full day.
I know it was my choice to work through my lunch time, but it's difficult watching others not give a full days work for a full days pay and then also taking extra time.
Rant over.
Thanks for listening.
About 30 years ago I drove my 383 4spd Coronet to St Pete from Tampa 5 days a week to the top of the world. The 2 boss ( old school kinda beach carpenters, cool dudes) men said they could always hear me coming from a far when I was late. Place had some crazy architecture. Anyhow, we were hand digging a 4' x 4' footer that went for like a mile. Big *** wall.... 2 Mexicans and me. It was a Friday. The boss told me we dig to a certain point, then leave w/ full days pay. He handed us checks and split. I outdug them both while they took their sweet *** time.. I busted my *** to get off 30 minutes early....no gain there.

No sir...I don't think I could ever work for a union shop

I understand they had their place in history, but I don't think they have done our country any good in at least half a century
By any good if you mean get thousands of hard workers get laid off because of ridiculous demands then id disagree. I lost a damn good job when I was younger because of the stupid greedy *** union reps!

New school, old school.... lazy mthrfkrs inhabit both. Remember this right after we the taxpayers bailed these sh#tbags out?
Chrysler workers exposed smoking pot, drinking on lunch breaks return to jobs.
Was that in 69 when they were assembling Road Runners? LOL

Watching Mondelez/Nabisco in Richmond go through this.... It sounds like they had it way better than the average worker and now there is an alignment with how the world runs now. Nothing is worse than losing benefits and how someone's new work schedule can include no Overtime on the weekends. Been there, done that.

I hope there is something sorted out because it can all go bad and Mondelez can fold up tent and do everything in Mexico...

i have read this 3 or 4 times and im still not sure what you were saying...i guess first thing to figure out is when did you loose out on this job?

Nope 2010, but ya never know when it came to the Mod Top.
The engineers were on something, but I like what they did with the Mod/floral tops and interiors, cartoon graphics, and high impact colors. Even the Meep, Meep horn was over the top. 69 1/2 with a hot rod motor a lift off hood and black steelies with chrome lug nuts? WTF! That is some cool stuff. Yep they were on something good!

Absolutely, I had some great thoughts way back then as long as it wasn't dirt weed.:lol:

That's what the assembly line workers smoked. I have heard stories of roaches and roach clips in doors and on floors under carpet and seats.

I think it's more of a parenting problem than anything.

That was one of the surprising things about this manager. He's late 40s and both his parents are immigrants (father is from the Philippines and mother is Japanese). From what I've seen of others with either background their kids are usually extremely hard-working.

I'll be looking when I gut the car :D
Totally different, but not to far off, I was redoing an office in South Tampa just west of Downtown Tampa in 06. Found a bag of grass and a 1977 hustler or playboy. The dried hay was as old as the rag of mag.

High Times

Watching Mondelez/Nabisco in Richmond go through this
I helped develope and produce a product for Mondelez, the amount of people they brought along was insane, 40-50 when it's usually under 6. They wanted the impossible from our QC people, didn't listen to us, and the product ultimately failed. They were a giant pain in the ***.

9 outta my 12 hours a day are spent in front of SCADA running our water plant.
Everyone else figures theirs should involve 75% seat time also. Lazyass jack wagons, BUT mgmt let's them. Taxpayers $$.....the old saying "hide n go seek, 40 hours a week"
I'm in the same industry , almost retired and getting the hell out of Metro Atlanta
will have 32 years in then retired @ 53.
