Hello forum,

I’m totally new to A bodies, wrenching, and automotive science. But I grew up with Darts in the late 60s and 70s, and ALWAYS have wanted one. Life is getting shorter, so I went and got one. 74 swinger in “repainted” b5 blue. 225 1 barrel with an automatic transmission. Starts on the first turn of the key. Essentially one owner, 41000 on the odometer. Might have rolled over but the pedals look very lightly worn. Hard to say from looking, and we don’t know for sure.

it’s basically the same car my grandmother had but with a black vinyl top. Though her’s might have been an earlier year. My brother and I have different recollections…

Buying it was great. A private sale and the (re)seller was one of the nicest guys I’ve met in quite a while. I’m psyched to get started…. After a little spine surgery….

I didn’t want to lose what looked to be a solid good running, driving, stopping car, so I bought it, but I won’t be able to start working on it for at least two months during recovery.

I’ve been watching YouTube mechanics and restorers for years to satisfy my wrenching jones, but now I’m ready to try my actual hands, or will be anyway. I’m hoping to do some more reading, watching, prepping, and forumizing, while I recover, so I can gather as much knowledge as possible.

I’m really glad to have been pointed to this forum resource, and I have ordered 2 books (so old school, I know…) by Herschel Whittington just to have some period info to start on, but: does the forum Gang here have any favorite books (in or out of print) for working on this car and the slant six?

Many thanks for any help in advance,

Adam

Welcome from :canada:
Great story about your dreams and your grandmother's car. You seem very excited and eager to learn, perfect.
Good luck with your car and show us some pictures, we love pictures!

Welcome to the madness we call FABO!!

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery so you can start wrenching. From your avatar it looks like a very solid Dart.

Welcome from the woods of northern Montana. Nice looking Dart. Post a few photos when you get a chance

Welcome to the zoo, post pictures of your beauty.
Will do. I have the title and have paid for the car, but the seller is kindly holding it for me until after the surgery. Don’t have time to get it before. I’m going to do a very minor YouTube series on it I think. Just to keep a record of my insanity and so my brother can laugh his as* off at me. I’ll post pics as soon as I get the car though. I’m very curious about what others think of it.

Hello Canada! Thanks! Pics will be coming when I actually pick up the car. I have the title, but the Seller is holding it for me til after the surgery. Don’t have time to get it before.

One of my very favorite YouTube guys is from your side of the border. Halfasskustoms. I think he’s in Manitoba. Really enjoy watching him build.

Welcome from PA!

Welcome into the fold, FABO that is. You pick an excellent auto and FABO is a great site you did well grasshopper......

Welcome to FABO, it sounds like you have a good project there.
Maybe try slant6.org for some further reading specific to the slant.

What car? We haven't seen it yet. :poke::lol:
I’m more excited to post them than I’m sure you’ll be to see them.
I don’t have my own photos yet because I can’t actually pick up the car until after I have back surgery this Thursday (11/18).

So it’ll be a few weeks to get the car. The purchase is done, and I do have the title.

I’ll ask the seller if he’s ok with me posting his photos here and if so, I’ll do a preview for you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of A body Mopars, glad to have you with us. I think in this case, you will have the last laugh over your brother, a nice clean little Dart is a great first Mopar to have. And with a slant 6, you can drive and enjoy it for years trouble free, while you plan your dream for it, and brush up on how to get it done. Take care of that spine first tho, this should be a great experience, and you don’t want to jeopardize your health doing so!
