Some of you have probably noticed that either Summit or maybe UPS is now using some outfit called LaserShip to ship products. I live about a 3-1/2 hour drive from the Tallmadge, OH, Summit store and have always received my orders within 24-36 hours from ordering. Their ordering and delivery process has been amazing!

Well, a couple months back, I started noticing that parts from Tallmadge were being shipped via LaserShip. And now what used to be 24-36 hours has turned into 2-4 days and one time even 5 days. I don't know if Summit is contracting LaserShip or if UPS is subcontracting them. I don't fault them for trying as we all know shipping companies are struggling with labor shortages just like everybody else. When I get a LaserShip package, it's usually been a 25-30 year old guy in a beat-up minivan needing a muffler that drives up the driveway and puts the package on the porch. I'm usually working from home so I go out and say thanks and retrieve the package.
So this morning I clicked on the text message I got from Summit to see where the latest order from this past Wednesday night was and I got this update through their website. (I doubt it will be arriving today as noted but that's ok as tomorrow will be just fine.) Note that Summit just uses the info they receive from their shippers to post and provide back to you. As the screenshot from my phone shows, I did this at 9:04am this morning, 11/14. But the update shows the package was received at 11:08am on 11/14 at the LaserShip facility! Hmmm....how can it be that at 9:04am you can state something was already received over 2 hours into the future????? Is there a DeLorean involved or ???

USPS, fedex and ups have been subcontracing for a few years now. USPS even uses UPS on occasion.
Yeah, summit used to get parts to me in 1-2 days and for the past couple years its now 2-4 days.
Latest news is I hear Amazon may be buying USPS.

Did I understand you right? Amazon is going to buy USPS from the government?

They could run it and it would profit.

Looks entirely possible.
If they did, wouldn't that be a hoot! IMHO, from the stand point from the postal worker's...a lot of the "perks" would disappear, when run as a business and their exemption from the vaccine requirement would be null. All of it will go over like a fart in a space helmet.

Sell it! The USPS has been an albatross around the neck of the US economy for decades. Gub'ment management, highly regulated, union controlled (for good or bad)....hard to imagine government workers unionizing....whats next, the armed forces? Do kids still deliver rural mail on bikes in Australia like a paper route? Hears that somewhere.....think about bulk advertising mail. If you never got it, how often would the mailman actually have to walk up to your door? That would cut their stops by 80% and reduce labor

I don't know....I hope it wouldn't impair anyone's ability to know something was already received PRIOR to the actual time arriving....

I'm wondering if doesn't have something to do with my 9/16" socket's ability to run off and hide at will?

I had a small package that was shipped from Ca 10/27/21. Tracking showed it arrived in Northport,Al which is 10 miles from me. It was delivered by USPS Saturday afternoon 11/13/21. 13 days to travel 10 miles

For a dozen Jelly donuts that 9/16 will be released unharmed. Leave the donuts on the front porch.
:thankyou:

I always have to get tracking info so my junk doesn't end up on your kitchen table!!
The price just went up. Jelly Donuts & a Extra Large Coffee. Or the 5/8 socket goes next. :(

When I see people crash down on USPS I can't argue with their frustrations. However, if everyone could go into a Bulk mail center they would quickly realize that it is an insane process. I can see an Amazon going acquiring it however it won't be so clear cut as everyone may think. Again, just what I see in the BMC's I go into.

But if that would happen USPS has nobody to blame but themselves. And unfortunately when you have a safety net to catch you it gives you a false sense of security. And that is exactly a problem with USPS. There is no accountability and filled with too much Red tape for today's times....

Make it soon. Or the socket's will be returned Metric. Yeah a 16 mm will work wonders on a Old Mopar. Lol

Summit uses “OnTrak” on the west coast for shipments out of Reno. They would deliver in 1 day to the Bay Area and 1-2 days Portland. They were OK until the Plandemic, then OnTrak when majorly down hill. It got so bad that my brother called summit and asked / told them to never use OnTrak for the orders to his shop in the Bay Area.

Summit like a lot of big companies use “quoting” software for shipments to find the cheapest route for said box cube size / weight and delivery location...

I just had 2 Summit orders get to me in the last 2 days (sorry @72Dart6pack ). LaserShip took just under 4 days from the time of ordering for the 3-1/2 hr drive and UPS took 36 hrs for the same trip. That's back to where UPS or FedEx used to always be. Hope it lasts!

Your sockets have met their fate. The Donuts were never received. :(
