Going to YouTube

-
I also recruited a camera guy. I was looking for someone tall because my concern of a POV is that I'm under 5 feet tall, so even a camera on my hat is going to give a very low view. I Kinda feel that the view of the world through my eyes is limiting because I often have to climb shelves at wall mart to reach items that everyone else reaches with ease and I often don't even see items set back on the shelves so I think a taller camera guy can get the videos a better view when looking over Stuff like a engine in the car.

That's what I don't like. There's a lot of female channels and they give us a bad name.

I'm going to bring em in for the tech and stories, not the milkshakes. I'm a mechanic and this stuff is no longer a hobby for me, but a lifestyle. So this is going to be different
How bout "Girls Can Wrench"

Are you going to put yourself in any videos?

Good luck Princess Valiant, if anyone can do this it you, a bunch of good advice seen in this thread.

I wish you all the luck and hope this idea moves forward.

I suggested to another poster that you can always post the videos privately and solicit for feedback before making public.

It may be nice to see it from your view though also. Not everyone is tall and tall people have issues in lower places, other viewing perspectives, etc. Mix it up some.

Don’t add music.

YES!

so many videos i start watching and not finish because of music i dont like
the sound of silence is better (i can always open a window and play my own music if i need)

now, having said that, there are off course those moments where a little music can be helpful,
there is this one for when you drop a nut and need to try to find it (or a socket)

and there is this for when something finally fits

oh, one more thing (and i dont know you well enough, but this may not need to be addressed) but i will not watch a video with foul language in it
so you can widen your audience by making sure you talk nicely

I say anyone that wants to make videos and post them on youtube should do it. It's free. If you decide later you don't like it, you can delete videos with a click of a button.

I spend a lot of time on you tube video. The only useful advice i can give is make sure your camera person isnt "shakes the clown." I would post a you tube video of said clown but it takes 0:50 just to get to the content. (second hidden hint)

So I have been thinking that I do record a lot of my junkyard crawls and stuff I do but it's always been for my own entertainment. Then I find I never watch my own videos so they just kinda find their way to a hard drive and drift away into time.

So because I'm a huge fan of YouTube and I watch 800 hours of videos a year according to YouTube, I'm no stranger to what the typical content is and it's pretty much stuff I do and can handle.

So I'm planning on getting started, maybe this weekend so my question is to those members on YouTube. @318willrun

1. How do you edit videos. Is there software, does it cost?

2. How do you get over the nerves. I almost went on the live chat tonight with Mucsle car city (Rueben) but my mic wasn't working and the computer froze up a few times. But then he said i can use my phone which I hadn't even thought of, but then I couldn't get logged in for some *** reason.

In a way I got really nervous thinking about how many viewers there actually are. I mean an old man in rural Russia can potentially be watching me make a *** of myself going on and on about a valiant.

C. How do you add music and where can you select songs that won't get your video booted by yuuuuuutoooob

D. What other equipment will I need other than a mic and I'm guessing a gopro camera??

5. Are there any other tips you can give to making a solid video?

Ok, I'm done thinking out loud, any input is appreciated.

You are young and much more computer savy then most of us old people but this is exactly what most of us feel like about the interwebs and things like YouTube.

I'm certainly no expert on editing. There is one simple program that allows you to easily clip out sections of a video called "Vidcutter." You can download it free for pretty much all platforms, and you can also get it in a single package in which you just run one file and it already contains "everything" you need to run. Called "appimage"

It can be a bit glitchy but it is easy

VidCutter

If you are unaware you can downsize files to YouTube as you upload it--the YouTube software will do that "online" so to say

I don't know, the idea that all younger people are computer savvy might be a myth. I did learn about computers in school but that was several years ago and computers have changed a lot.

I barely paid attention to computers then and now I just want them to work, but I can't say I know how they work.

Videoshop and rush premium are a couple i use. The gopro apps i find frustrating to use.
I like videoshop, can stack up a bunch of photos for a slide show and edit int a video.
Start with videos less than 2 minutes, and dont clickbait the titles.
You can set it up as private, and invite your chosen viewers to watch. Get comfortable with what you do. The more videos, the easier it gets.

"In the beginning, God created the heaven's and the earth".....

He didn't ask anyone's opinion either. "Start the tape" !! :D

Start with videos less than 2 minutes
I would have to say two min is a long time. I do like introductions and I like when the host has the same intro.....MR Ballen , Eric the car guy..etc etc...BUT if Im not seeing content within a minute....You lost me. Ill suffer through it if I know what Im getting into... but as a rising star....dont mess around....get into it quickly.

I don't have much to add since I don't have a channel, but since I started working from home I have found myself on YouTube a whole lot more than before. Easy access and no commute, etc.

But I can share a thought and a pet peeve.

Thought - I like music if it no one is talking. But probably just me.

Pet peeve - make the transitions smooth. I like Junkyard Dave's builds, but his editing skills leave something to be desired. Seems like most of the time he clips his own sentences, at least finish what you are saying. On the other hand, the Goonzquad has some really nice transitions like putting their hand over the camera and then starting to record with it there and remove it so they have someplace to cut and make it smooth. Something, anything, like that rather than "...and see how it wo...".

On a side note, pretty sure the Goonzquad boys do everything on an iPhone.

In regards to the visual presentation, maybe wear loose coveralls? Make it hard to figure out your figure?

I watch a lot of the youtube, AVE never ever shows himself. Yes, he has music, and a wee bit of profanity. But his videos seem well thought out for the most part. Brent, a local hot rod hobbyist spends a fair amount of time editing,i really like the drone footage. Halfasskustoms
