Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good Morning everyone. Friday here too. Looking forward to the long weekend. I need to get some sleep and some work done on my house. The power company trenched in the Natural Gas line yesterday - 2 weeks early. Now have to do the change over at the furnace and add a regulator. Will be a nice switch. Propane was delivered the other day - I didn't order any nor did I resign this year's contract. $2.56/gal. Double last year. Thank you Government.

3.13 /gal here... and that's with a Veteran discount

Can't like that. That is bad. What was it a year ago?
It’s up about 40 percent year over year here. That’s ontop of the nearly 20 percent it went up 2020vs2019 . That said, we have a contract that we get a discount on by having it filled in July. We only use it for the furnace so it normally lasts us until April unless it’s super cold. But that only has happened 1X in the 8 years we have lived here

My brother just put in a pellet stove. I'll see how this winter goes. I'm thinking I could pull out the gas insert and replace with a pellet stove.

Thats about the same price per ton
My parents did that. You will use a LOT of pellets in short order. And they keep their house at 68

Whats popular around here are the outside wood burners. Basically can burn anything in them.

Too much smoke from just smoldering and they are trying to ban them here as well...isn't working though

Morning!
Pellet stove in house is burning just over 1 bag per day
Shop is 1 bag in 3 days, it only runs when im in shop. 6.00 per bag this year.

Oh yeah..

I think they're trying to get those banned.

Too complex a system for me. Aren't some of those also the hot water source for the house?
There is a heat exchanger for water that enters the hot water tank. Pre-heats.
Building code now requires a heat exchanger on the shower drain to preheat the water that goes into hot water tank.

In my 120 year old house, I went through about 1400 gallons last year. I didn't prebuy as I planned to switch to NG. It just took longer to have them trench the line than I had expected.

There is a bunch of lobbying to get them banned. Very efficient, heat very well. Just not getting the tax money and power companies aren't making a killing on fuel. Local loggers are making the money then. All about the money. The smoke....I have never found a person personally who has complained. I am sure some with lung issues, but in cold climate areas, most love the smell of the wood fires.

Our house is small, we maybe use 600 gallons if it’s average, 800-1000 if it’s super cold

If you live in a cold region, heat means fire... like flaming burning something. Everything else just struggles
