Finishing my dad’s custom 65 barracuda

never saw tail lights like that with the convex clear lens, was that a Valiant thing?
The taillight lens is a flat piece of polycarbonate. As you can tell, it has been extensively modified and it is all metal fabrication. What you can't see is the gas filler door has been removed and put in the trunk area. Hood and trunk releases operate from inside the car.

Here it is with the glass in!

You are getting closer to having it going again, keep plugging along.

Thanks. Next week, the exhaust system is going in. We will run 2.5 inch duals out the back with a cutout for racing. Dec. 20 it goes in to complete the interior.

Front is too low, rear is too high. I don’t know where the eight and three-quarter inch rear diff came from, but we took a leaf spring out and It didn’t lower it very much. Any suggestions?

I think it sits good but I’d raise the front up some and the rear would come down a little too...but you probably have mopar super stock springs, might have to swap over to a different set cause those are made to sit high

The exhaust is hitting a lot, and although you can't see it very well in the pictures there is about 4 inches of air above the rear tires. I'll figure something out, but you are right, get the front raised and get the interior in and we will see how she sits.

Dual exhaust is tight on these cars with how the gas tank is mounted...you may have to modify the exhaust if you already got it on with the taller springs, lower it and things will be more tight...might be best to leave the rear height for now, you might end up liking it...your dad must have liked it! Car is looking sharp....it’s different and I like it!

I noticed in your pictures of the interior parts, there are several parts that don’t belong with this car....must have gotten mixed up over time.

You said it looked to be 4 inches higher than the tire, keep in mind that those rear wheel wells are modified so it makes it look a little higher I think since the factory rear quarter panels covered up about 4 inches of the rear tire, but it looks nice and they did a good job, that’s a hard mod to pull off. What size rear tire are you running? A lower profile rear tire would lower it too without changing the suspension

I'll definitely raise the front first as it is barely clearing everything. I thought my dad did a pretty good job with all the mods-he did everything himself. It's all metal. Lots of little details like no exterior gas filler, rear deck lid hinges are all internal/custom machine. The bulge in front of the rear fender is out. Lots of little details he finished over the decades.
I'm running 15's by 295's, looks wicked from behind!

Yes, very tight and there are subframe connectors under there. I have no idea what parts got mixed in over the years! I know there is another box in my Mom's basement which I will retrieve next week. He bought the car in like 1990! He wanted to put a Viper v10 in it, would have done it too, but the Parkinsons made that impossible. I do not have that kind of talent.

Today is the day we start the engine swap. The engine that is currently in the car is a mildly warmed-over 360. The engine on the chain is a 030 over 360 with a stroker crank, roller cam, Edelbrock ported heads. The engine coming out will end up in my truck, seen in the last 2 pics. I had to do something useful with it as it only has 10k miles on it.

The stroker engine will have a little shot of nitrous which should put me near 600 hp. Hopefully she will be done for Christmas! Well, maybe New Years...

It will settle down some after driving it, Mine was very high with fresh springs but after a few hundred miles it settled down...

Here is the car running. Oil pressure 78 psi warm idle, the nitrous tank and custom gas tank filler. The front end was raised 2.5 inches. Last is getting the front grill etc on.

Looking good, get it out in the day light and post 4 corner pictures, both sides, front and rear views.

Welcome. Don't worry, we got rid of all the purists a long time ago. LOL. I like the black and gold theme. My Barracuda is a 340 4 speed 3.55 gears. You are going to LIKE that combo. I've got to ask. What is the piece of blue tape above the right rear wheel for?

Thanks, I will try to get better photos this weekend. I'm hunting for a grill right now. I probably should wash and wax it too!

The rear wheel mod should have been factory in the first place IMHO. I think the blue tape is to check ride height and was used as a reference.

The car seems pretty fast but haven't gotten on it yet. The front end needs alignment and there aren't any seatbelts.
