What's the part numbers for the operating rod, brake booster, master cylinder to convert a pre 1973 "A" body mopar to power brakes, I've found parts for every other mopar but not the pre 73's. Thanks

Did you check a parts book?
It's a bit cryptic , usually things like 5-100-190 would have a specific listing in the parts number in 67 it does not????

The "Screw" is the adjuster either from the pedal to the booster or from the booster to the MC

I prefer power brakes, if your car has power brakes I myself would leave them. I've had manual brake cars in the past and it takes more effort to stop and power brakes are safer and they don't cost any power.

I’m not sure power brakes are “safer” as you say. A correctly done manual brake set up will stop anything. With power brakes you are limited to how much cam timing you can run. As intake manifold vacuum drops, power brakes become less effective to the point the car won’t stop without 2 feet on the brake pedal. Manual brakes take up less space in the engine bay, weigh less and done correctly will stop like power brakes, and you can run any cam you want.

Manual discs are a pleasure in an A body. Even my wife likes them. I put manual discs on my Sweptline and it too was easy to stop. I like the feel much better than power brakes.

As far as safety, if the motor would die for any reason, I'd much rather be driving a manual brake car.

I’m wondering why vintage formula : sports racer race cars didn’t use power brakes if there safer over manual brakes..... :poke:

To each there own. I’m pulling the power brakes off my 72 duster this winter, manly due to the 107+3 cam I’m putting in....

IMHO power brakes are no safer than manual. Once the tires are locked up there is nothing more to be done but go for the ride. infect it could be said that manual brakes give you better stopping control since it takes more effort to press the pedal you might be less likely to lock up the brakes and be able to maneuver while braking, think poor mans antilock brakes!

And power brakes look especially hideous on A bodies and eat up a bunch of space. Apologies to Dan. I realize my response doesn't help.

All good points. As far as stopping a car as long as the braking system is in tip top shape, I don't even need a master cylinder

Rusted out floor boards I take it!

Fred Flintstone called... He wants his car back

I'm really surprised that none of you guys figured out how I could stop a car even without a master cylinder, it's a feature that cars have had for years, it's called a emergency brake, some are hand operated others are foot operated.

I have Power KH discs! I never was impressed with them!

They are currently the best they have ever been since 1984 and can finally smile!

In an "A", BB , the system does take up way to much space!! I went for the true fender tag and such!

My Previous B-Bodies braked just fine with Manual Drums!

Manual brakes are great if properly installed and maintained. I drove a restored 1972 nova a couple of years ago and I had to stand on the brakes to get it to stop. There are other forms of power brakes, vacuum operated are not the only ones out there. If the car I get has manual brakes I'll most likely leave it like that.
