Edelbrock’s New Carb Is The Most High-Tech

-
The most high tech version of something that has not been used in production vehicles in 30 years ?

Is it just me, or does that look a LOT like a Holley? I wonder if it has power valves to blow out.

Uh.. did they buy Holley?

How it is an Eddy 4150?

I want one to test. In fact I need two so we can test tunnel ram set ups.

I LOVE me a four corner 4150 HP series carb on a single plane. Hell yes baby, lets make some power!

Does it cost as much as a Sniper "yet?" LOL

Calling this a "4150" is a completely stupid idea. Google "4150" and you will see why. For one thing, "4150" is a common slang term used to identify the popular square bore "Holley" pattern 4bbl manifold/ spacer/ gasket / etc

Who cares if it is a copy . It has a lot of cool features . I am looking forward to it . My guess is around $750 price point .

I don't know man. The Quick Fuels have ALMOST the same adjustability for purt near half that. They better be better than 750 if they wanna sell any.

Patents run out after so many years and one tiny change allows much regurgitation.

This.

I will admit the i like what they say it has/can do.

But common man. We know you stole it. Dont call it 4150 if the parts dont interchange.... (Do they?)
:drama:

Cuz now i kinda really want one. (Two)

Edelbrock selling Holley carbs. Nothing new. Edel sold Holleys before. They are in the 1979 Edel catalog.

What it is is a 4 circuit carb when you only need 2 circuits. One day I’ll get my hands on one and pin it, but there isn’t a need for a 3rd circuit on a Dominator so why Edelbrock thinks you need that and a 4th circuit on a 4150 I can’t say. It looks like they went cheap and used 12 hole boosters. That’s only marginally better than the 8 hole boosters Holley used.

Akin to all the infomercials hawking frying pans, can openers, knives, etc. Reinventing the wheel. And by the way the commercials depict the typical users of all the previous “amazing” utensils etc: burning their food till its welded to the pan, only able to make simple dishes in a pan, cutting their fingers while mangling the can with ordinary can openers, hacking up a loaf of bread or squashing tomatoes with dull knives.....it’s safe to say there will still be people who buy a “new and amazing” carburetor but still won’t know how to tune it! LOL:rofl:

Stuff like this make me laugh,
Carbs are dead
The carter design is better than holley
Efi is the future
2021 the result:

Edelbrock makes a brand new "holley" clone carb.

I like the idea of this carburetor. It's seems good for people who actually know how to tune one.

I think someone out there has been sniffing too much race gas. It would be interesting to see the number of carburetors being sold versus 5 years ago....

This one is gonna be a bust IMO....

It looks kinda cool. For sure a better mousetrap but why not? I understand the added features, they're not terrible ideas. Sometimes things like transfer slot tuning can be tricky so adding a little more adjustability can only help. This carb is sorta EFI lite - it's in the middle between a traditional carb and retrofit fuel injection.

The idea of it being taller is like adding a spacer so there might be situations that you can't even use this thing due to lack of hood clearance but those instances are probably few and far between.

They're probably also betting on the idea that there are enough guys out there that are on the fence about fuel injection but won't pull the trigger because they're stubborn or don't trust it or don't want to spend the coin on the peripheral upgrades. The only caveat with that assumption is that particular segment of the hobby is more often than not less interested in the latest gadgetry, let alone taking the time to get it dialed in perfectly. I'm talking about the cruise night crowd. I talk to these types of dudes all the time at car shows. Most don't even realize I have EFI and when I tell them they look under the air cleaner and still are not sure what they're looking at. At that point I generally get one of two reactions - they either look down their bifocals and say I know how to tune a carbuertor, I don't need a computer to tell me how to do it or they glaze over like a deer in the headlights because they zero idea of how any of it works.

On the cynical side - Edelbrock has had EFI for years now but I hardly ever hear or read about anyone using it over the Holley stuff. They kinda got clobbered on that!

I read years ago in a magazine, maybe Car Craft, where they dyno tuned a carbureted BBC until they got the best numbers they could... I think it was like mid to upper 700hp range. Then they bolted on an EFI and on the first run it made within 3hp of their best carbureted effort. And I think it was better through all the other rpm readings with a smoother idle.
But where is the fun and satisfaction in that? Technology has its place but it gets to a point, like in pro stock drag racing, where it's so high tech and expensive, I no longer think it's fun.
I think it just depends on what you want.
