Dartin for Divorce

Purchased my speedmaster heads. Got the CNC fully assembled heads, figured they came with everything and I didn't need to ask a million questions asking what else to buy for them. Speedmaster doesn't have any head stud kits in stock so I'll have to figure out some head studs or some longer bolts for the heads (speedmaster says they need longer bolts/studs).

My receipt says they should ship tomorrow.

Now just need to go and read over @70aarcuda build threads and see which rockers he likes. I know he has a million sets of SM rockers, but only the aluminum 1.5 roller rocker arms and shafts are in stock and idk if those are any good.

they use the same head bolt or stud kit as an eddy aluminum head. The only SM rockers i have ever used is the Stainless Steel rocker arms, they look identical to the PRW. They are all out o of stock on them.

Correct, on the studs/bolts, I just have to find a set.

Ah those rocker arms are all out of stock, I guess I will be keeping my stock ones for now then. Maybe I'll find some rockers at a later date :)

Its only been what? 1.5 years since you said I needed to get aluminum heads, well I am finally making some progress on that.

Are you feeling better now? Well compared to last time we spoke? I sure as heck hope so! How is the engine stand?

Gall Bladder needs to come out...LOL

Engine test stand is great...Broken in 3 engines last month....Friend around the corner with 68 Dart has 3 NHra Stocker motors he wants to break in camshafts so that is next ...

Thats good!!! Gall bladder coming out isn't to bad, it is a fairly quick surgery and recovery time (my office managers wife had this done last week).

Sucks about having to live some more.... Except for the fact that you get to finish the Cuda and hopefully get to take the Demon out for a race or 2 this year!

@70aarcuda When is your friend wanting to sell that amazing dart? I think I could find some space in my garage for it...

I believe this is the head stud kit I will need to get, sucks the speedmaster ones are out of stock. Oh I will also need to find some gaskets, would the felpro blue head gaskets work as well as they have with my stock heads.

Or should I buy all of the speedmaster gaskets? I think it would be like 50 bucks for all of those lol

Use the felpro gaskets.....if I remember your pistons stick out of the deck....You will need the thicker felpro head gasket to keep the piston the head clearance around .035 .....
the blue felpro are .053 compressed which fits works great....

Yea I think those are what we used before, and I remember the .053 number.

Forgot to add the ARP head stud kit, it's
ARP 144-4005, these work with the eddy RPM heads.

I live in Lords Valley, PA (Rt 84 & 739) there's been 21° days here and there. That's a bit cold...

Oh that's pretty cold! Yesterday most of the day was in the 30s and I was outside for a decent amount of time doing Christmas decorations. Most were up, but I added and moved stuff around.

Yesterday was 52*F here, but the wind has been hitting 50-55 mph, so your Christmas decorations would be 3 or 4 counties away by now. Lol
Good to know that you are still planning to do more work on your car, hope you and your family had a good Thanksgiving.

Hey thanks!

Yes I am always planning more work on my car, just have to conserve funds... not only did I buy heads but I am also purchasing new wheels, leveling kit and wheel spacers for my truck... oops.. I blame the wife for that since she said "why do you have such small wheels on your truck? It doesn't even look like a real truck..."

Lol

@70aarcuda now that my heads will be coming (hopefully soon) what rockers and arms should I get?

I know you like PRW and the SM arms that look like PRW, but the SM are sold out and PRW are like 3x the price lol. Any advice for the poor college kid? The aluminum arms that look like Harland sharp from SM, run stockers for a bit, or wait on the heads until I can spend the coin for PRW?

At least the dart had a heated garage for a bit....*yes that's a heater in the garage for when I was refinishing the tables lol.

PRW A Eng. Stainless Shaft Mount Rocker Arm Set Seems Mancini has them. B3 Racing probably has some too. Might have to order his geometry kit to get them though. Either way I think you are going to need custom pushrods and check for clearance too.

600 buck + pushrods... lol I want to avoid spending that for a bit if I can. If I have to run those I'll have to wait a bit to buy it all.

Ya, I was gonna delete after I re-read your college kid plea but then again I thought you would like to see what's out there. They sure look the same as the speedmaster but I know there was some soft shafts out there too.

Yea the speedmasters like the prw are sold out and have been for a while apparently.

Yea I like to still be cheap and poor right now, since I did just start working.

You won't go wrong getting the rocker setup from B3, the guy is a wizard with SBM heads & rocker geometry.

Hard on ball joints and cv shafts. Dont forget to get headlights aligned after you crooked your truck. I imagine you dont do much country road stuff,so its not as bad for front end wear.

The aluminum SM rockers will hit the retainers......they will only fit if the valve spring retainer is stock diameter....I believe the ones on the sm heads are larger....

That's weird that they will hit on their head setup. I have stock retainers on my X-heads, but font have one of those fancy take the valve springs off tool.

I'm just getting 35s (currently have 32s) a 2.5in leveling kit and 1.5in wheel spacers. Shouldn't be to hard on my cv shafts or ball joints with just a leveling kit. I used to run 4-6in lifts on my Jeeps with 35s on one jeep and 37s on the other. 40k miles between the 2 Jeeps in 2 years, and I beat the chit out of them. Took them rock crawling all over Southern Nevada and Southern Utah.

Older straight axle with lifts is no big deal.i built a 4” lift for my 80 power wagon with 35’s.
my son has the full meal deal lift on his silverado, front and rear, control arms and diff relocated. Lots of money, and work.
Your 2.5” puts the ball joints out of their nominal operating range, as well as the cv shafts. Wheel spacers? Shortens the life of the wheel bearings. Ride and handling are in the toilet.
Your rig, my opinion. Form over function, i get it.
