more confused than ever (degreeing a cam)

-
I found out the high spot on the cam, zeroed the indicator and rotated the crank with degree wheel so the cam fell off 50 thou each side of that high spot and read the degree wheel.

I think maybe I see where im going wrong here. Maybe.
Going from "top down" instead of "bottom up".
I'm zeroing the indicator at high side of lobe.
Is it supposed to be zero on the bottom and measure"up" 50 thou on either side of that?
I wasn't relocating anything except for the crank and cam by virtue of rotating it, and the degree wheel "relocates" to a different degree reading. I haven't reset the degree wheel position since I verified TDC.
Nor have I reset my indicator after establishing "0" at top of highest lift point of cam lobe. Other than watching needle position, upon turning the crank and cam.

You are overthinking this. Here is a degree wheel set up for both duration at something and centerline. Set up the wheel at TDC and go from there.

Don, zeroing the indicator then rotating the crank to get the degree wheel number .050 before the top of the cam lob then .050 after the top of the cam lob then adding those and dividing by two is the correct method to get the Intake Centerline. You did it correctly.
The cam is at a 106 ICL.
Don you have another question?

Volaredon,
You started this thread by saying you were confused.....
30+ replies later, are you even more confused.....
I hope you read my post, #14. About why it isn't necessary to degree the cam for your engine.

Some good advice from Harvey Crane [ Crane cams ]. A change in ICL [ or ECL ] should be a minimum of 4* if you want the butt-meter to feel it.

So drilling out cam sprockets to fit offset dowels because the ICL is 1* degree out...will not make a difference you will feel. And that is because there is no guarantee that the ICL on the cam card will be best for your combo.

If you will just buy the fuckin Comp Cams video, it will answer all your questions. My GOD. You're just insistent on makin this WAY more complicated than it is by trying to get help on the internet and you're gettin twelveteen hundred different answers a million different ways.

Not really. I said around post 26 that I was starting to see what is going on, why my numbers weren't what I was expecting to see vs the sheet that was included in the cam box. Most replies since then have been"not mine". I figured this out already, RRR c'mon, chill, haha.
And again I just wanted to go thru this to be sure it is where it's supposed to be because of all I've read about the dots being off, etc. I see now that they aren't.
And RRR, after you first mentioned that video I looked it up online, I ain't sure I found "that"one but found a few when I looked it up by that name.
I get it, a degree ain't gonna change anything, but I wanted to be sure I wasn't off something crazy like a whole tooth when the dots were lined up.
Judging by other posts that I have come across on this site over the years I know I'm not the only one who was confused by this. So hopefully it serves as a bump for others along the way.
I swear I've done this before and "got it" sometime in the past, use it or lose it, something I have done infrequently, that sort of thing.
Oh, forgot to say thanks for the help.
