Ok guys well i suppose its time, ran her on sunday and of course the classic industries radiator appears to be leaking at the bottom tank on the drivers side. I guess not too bad for about 8 years old. Not pouring but enough to notice, guess its time to go aluminum. I contacted wizard cooling and they recommended to go with the 1.25” tubes over the 1” they told me anything at or over 400 hp they recommend the 1.25” tubes.

i have been using 50/50 conventional green coolant and they also recommended i use a corrosion inhibitor as well. Do i need to? Has anyone used a corrosion inhibitor?

only when running water (for racing)
All coolants have anti-corrosion packages in them.
The different colors denote the different corrosion inhibitor packages - well they are supposed to.

Conventional green indicates inorganic inhibitors that are effective immediately and so are well suited for open and partially open systems.

If yours is copper, then it should be fixable. Might be as simple as a poorly soldered seam. If its pin holes in the core tubes, that can be patched for now. That will give you time to find a good one.

Yeah deff dont wanna fix it, i think its time for an aluminum anyway lol
Im just trying to decide between 1” or 1.25” tubes

You’ll get more mileage out of a copper/brass radiator. My aluminum radiator didn’t last two years.

I have a 22" Wizard w/shroud ( 1" tubes ) and running 180 t/stat and clutch fan. Mild 360. Runs 180 degrees . On a hot day may creep up to 190/195 if I'm idling getting staged for a main street show. One of my best investments. They are a little pricey but worth every dollar. One extra thing I did was to install a sacrificial anode in the water jacket on the intake to protect the aluminum from corrosion.

looks like it fits nicely. I have their shroud already. Im running the same temps as you right now with a 3 row, 1/2” tubes, 180 degree high flow tstat, flow kooler high flow water pump and mechanical clutch fan. 180 in the cooler weather and 190-195 in the summer, i guess ill go with the 1.25 tubes

Yes, it was a drop-in just had to massage the bottom slots ( 1/16' - 1/8" ).

I’m still running the .75” tube, 3 row 26” Champion in my Duster with a .060” over 340 that puts out over 400 hp. Been over 8 years now. Never had an issue with it.

Have the same one, mine makes 470hp, been since Aug 2013. I just run 50/50 prestone and change it every 5 years as directed.

With the Contour fan it will cool in the Woodward Dream Cruise on an 85 degree day on low speed. Of course I have a manual transmission also...

It's appalling that anybody thinks 8 years is a good or acceptable lifespan for a new rad of any construction, are You F'ing kidding? I have 50+ yr old rads that aren't leaking yet. 15-20yrs with reg maint. or lifetime coolant should be expected.

I’ve actually had the misfortune of being stuck in traffic in my car when it was 110*. The high speed on the contour fans kicked on a few times, but I never got anywhere near overheating.

Its not like its gone bad! Kind of hard to say how long they last until they break, but I have a plastic tank radiator in my truck that's 18 years old too.

I think he was talking about the OP’s radiator which also happens to have failed after 8 years.

I don’t think he meant either of our radiators which are at 8 years -ish and are still fine.

I don't think the OP said it was acceptable that it failed either.

Many aftermarket aluminum radiators are thin and poorly made.
Long long ago I decided to try a used radiator out of the wrecking yard. My mind was on affordable and longevity. Something from a production car, meant to last ..a warranty... who has a really long warranty? BMW happen to be one of those auto manufacturers that do...but mainly ..at the time.. it just looked like the right candidate. Its a plastic/aluminum radiator out of a 5 series BMW that had a 6 cyl... and its cooled a 9.5 comp 340 and 9.98 comp 410 just fine.
Bought it used in 2003....still good.
I know... bmw.. but this is a mopar site.
Hot rodding. If you're gonna catch wood for an aluminum radiator..then you're not a purist anyways.lol I drilled one 3/8 hole and welded a 2"tap to drill through on the pass side. Uses a moroso inline filler neck..
The whole thing cost 58 bucks n uses a slant upper for the lower hose. 175-185 all day in 100 degree weather. Pulls the grapevine on a mid summer day in the fast lane... and it's only one row.....
Looks like this but mine has the A/T cooler in it.

"Well I suppose it's time", & "I guess that's not too bad for", really?
I love the OP's ride, & I'll bet that rad cost pretty, unless that rad is damaged/improperly installed somehow I'd be pissed for a hobby ride's amount of usage!!!

i mean i think its not bad when you hear of all the guys having issues with the factory reproduction radiators

Yeah but if only it was the original mopar made radiator, it is a factory reproduction from classic industries
