Raised Port Head Question

Hi all. Quick question on raised port heads. I got a heck of a deal on a set of the SM victor copies, but this is my first time running raised port heads. I know I need the offset rockers, and will need longer push rods. Question is on the valley pan… looks like I’ll need the AR Engineering or Edelbrock 7799 trays. Can these be installed/removed with the heads on? Not a lot of info on their website.

I need to get a set of the .650 offsets for this setup. Probably just go with SM as this is going to primarily be a street car.
 
The Ede valley tray will install after the heads are on.

Mock up everything before bolting anything down.

Some clearancing for the intake pushrods may be required.

I see you have pistons with no valve pockets.
First thing I’d do is measure the valve to piston clearance.
That piston situation is going to limit how much duration you can run.
 
You will definately need offset intake rocker arms. As prh said don't go to wild on the cam or valvespring installed height/diameter and you will avoid a multitude of headaches.

Thanks PRH. I guess I jumped the gun torquing that head down. I suppose I’ll need another head gasket now? Offset rockers will be here this week, but I’m going to need to measure for pushrods once they are hear. Looks like I won’t be able to check P/V clearance for a while.
The cam isn’t too wild. Lunati Bracket Master 292/292 .480

Already headaches since I thought these were the RPM copies until I opened them up. Thanks everybody for the feedback.
 
TTI. I had them on it with 906 heads. Mocked it up with these and looks like I will have better clearance with the angles plugs.
 
I’ve only mocked up the driver side so far, but looks like it. I don’t have a part number since they came in all the parts with car but they are stamped 383-134

Well, a quick google and I guess 383-134 IS the part number. Interestingly it says they won’t clear head studs but they do on mine?
 
The problem is when u try to fit them in the car.I’m very interested how they fit in your car. Kim

I’ll keep you in the loop. Probably won’t be back in the car for a month or so. How much are the exhaust ports raised, a quarter inch? I know they are tight but till figure something out.
 
Well, rockers showed up today, so I was hoping to measure for pushrod length but it looks like I have another problem… rockers are contacting the retainers pretty significantly on the intake valves, and looks like they are actually taller (pretty new to valve trains but I assumed they would all be the same.) so do I want to go with different springs or should I be shimming the rocker shafts?

The valves are the same or very close in OAL. The exhaust valve has a thicker margin at the face making the effective installed height different, which is retarded becaise it is going the wrong way with respect to spring pressure. There are a few ways to work around that issue.

This is the reason Indy -1s uses a 5.344" intake and a 5.369" OAL exhaust valve.

Edelbrock might have corrected the valve lengths at some point. My victors were from late 2013 or early 14.

You just can’t shim the stands up. They have to go up and away from the valve.

Look him up and call him. He will correct it the right way. You don’t need different springs.
 
You can reuse the head gasket over and over while the engine is being put together and tested for valve clearances and such things.

Often is the case of grinding on a rocker to clearance it to the spring.
 
What is the inatalled height of the valve spring? You get in trouble with anything over 1.900" IH and 1.500 OD.

You should not need much spring for a .480 lift juice cam.
 
Hard to tell exactly what the situation is from the pics.......

If you put a straight edge across the valve tips, how much difference is there between intake/exhaust?

At this point, my advice would be....... send it all back if possible, and buy some Ede RPM or RPM “style” heads.
(As of yesterday, Stealths were back in stock at 440 Source)

If you’re intent on keeping them, remove an intake and exhaust valve and measure the OAL and head diameter......... to determine whether or not the heads have the “correct” length/size valves in them.

Looking at the pics some more, the angle that the top of the rocker is at makes it “look like” the valves are too long.
