What is an "EQ 9626 SA " stamped carb exatly?

The original Competition Series carbs had a number that started with a '4'. I have heard some of these later models, 9XXX, also had the 'Competition Series' moniker on the air horn but they were emissions carbs with emission ports, elec choke & leaner jetting.

Maybe "down there", but that 9636 is a classic Carter Competition series aftermarket AFB. I've had a lot of them.

RRR,
I have an original 1980 Carter Catalog which has a one page feature on these carbs.
Nowhere is the word 'Competition' used. I have heard that later models had the plate added across the air horn, probably for 'sales'.
Says this:
'The 9501 & 9626 are emission calibrated & certified for emission on a 1971 383 engine with stock Chrysler manifold, factory dual exh & auto trans'.
Happy to email this page if you PM an email address.

The Comp Series 4XXX carbs did not have an auto choke, some had a manual choke & the 500 & 750 version was available without a choke. The 750, #4762, without choke had richer sec jets & richer rods.

Just sayin what I've had and seen. I've had probably fifty or more through the years. They are also all over Ebay.

Bought a pair of the competition 750 afb's with no choke, many years ago. They definitely had a plate on the front of the airhorn that said "competition".
I don't have access at the moment, but they are probably the 4762, like Bewy says. I did have to rejet for the crossram.

What you seem to be missing is, these are not factory carburetors like you are referring to. They were aftermarket carburetors available through Summit and local speed shops. Edelbrock bought the rights and still makes the same basic carburetor today. I've even had some really early Edelbrocks that still had the 9636 Carter number, instead of the 1405 or 1406.

Yes, depending on the year

RRR,
You are misreading what I said. Never said they were factory carbs, they were replacement carbs made by Carter to replace factory carbs & the 9626 was certified for a 1971 383 engine.
The 9626 had two 'brothers', the 9625 & 9627, the 9625 certified for a 1972 Chevelle 350, the 9627 certified for a 1972 302 Torino.
When F-M bought Carter, the range changed, eg there was a 9635, not sure if there were internal mods. Then came Edel. I have bought Edel AFB carbs from Summit, well aware these & the above models were aftermarket carbs.

The reason I asked about this carb is that I have a poly 318 dual intake buried in the shed somewhere. I would sell it but the poly guys are cheaper than the slant guys! LOL UNLESS he is one that will build his engine!!!! Ten the sky is the limit! I was thinking IF i had a matching carb that would give me a pair even though I have no plans to use it. Most of the 9636 on feebay are stupid high! No one is goona give $300 for a dirty ole core off FleaBay!

I thought Poly dual 4 bbl intakes are pretty scarce these days, so wouldn't you get a good price for it?

I had it priced at $450 NO interest, but I did have a guy say he gets $600 and sells in minutes, I had it listed in FB POLY group... Go figure. I do not sell on FeeBay period. It ain;t eating so......

Build it and chunk it in somethin. Hell, you ain't THAT old.

I have 1 good running poly 318 in a more door 64 Bel. Stock engine. It would be nice eye candy but without some $$ spent on the engine, just that LOOKS! Car is 98% done and NO ONE has offerred more than $4000 for it $4500 is my price. I have a pretty nice low profile hemi scoop I fabbed out of 20 ga that I will probably put on there and then hear from the wanna be's and tire kickers how I ruined the car!!!
I have since added new ACC carpet.
