Hellooooo FABO!
Its funny how sometimes when I approach something I have never done, I watch the you tube and read the things......then I remember I have access to the greatest wealth of knowledge at my fingertips of people who have had the real life experience!!

So.....

Heidi and I are cruising to WI for family reunion and want to keep the puppers and ourselves as comfortable as possible so I am tinting the rear 5 windows of the '89 volvo 245 pretty dark and the drivers/passenger window a smidge. I have seen the videos and have some tools and a kit. I do not have a board to plaster the stuff on to cut it but all the vids say you can use the window as long as you use a stainless blade. Seems like clean the window, clean the window, clean the window, clean the door and keep things wet are the theme. Oh Gurus of the FABO What say you????

I just started tinting the windows in my 94 940 Volvo Wagon because you get cooking pretty good once the Sun hits it.
I bought the Gila brand and went with the five or six percent and I used a spray bottle about a third full water with one drop of dish soap then shook it up. I bought a squeegee like you would clean your shower door with from Daiso up the street for a buck or two, and also cleaned the window 1st. As for how I got started... I started at one end then I peeled some of it back on the edge cut it a little long, keep in mind this is for the side windows and back window in the rear, and then spraying the window first begin pressing it on and holding it while trying to peel back the film which is a lot of fun. I did the first one by pressing with my hand then got a squeegee on the second one then went back and pulled the first one off a day later halfway sprayed more water and squeegee it back down and did a better job that way. They say two people helps but unless your brains are connected one of you is going to let go at the wrong time and the film is going to roll up and stick to itself and you're starting over. So I did it by myself after that happened. The reason I do not peel the entire backing off and try and just stick it onto the window and then work bubbles out afterwards is because as soon as you do as someone mentioned the environment could have lint and anything else floating around in it and then end up in your tent but I will offer this advice use a decent amount of spray on the glass it's better to have too much than too little when it comes to getting the bubbles out.
I used a razor blade, be very careful.. the material likes to tear more than cut...so cut twice.

Nice wagon, these are truly great cars and very reliable and easy to work on. Volvo is the dodge dart of Sweden. Put a VX cam in it and it'll really wake up!

Thise windows look pretty flat which helps. Here's how I did it long ago when I was doing it regularly. I even did all windows in a house.

Spray bottle with water and a little Dawn.

Clean windows with spray and scrape windows with a razor blade.

I cut the sheet maybe 2" bigger all sides.

Then I used two pieces of tape facing each other over one corner of the sheet of tint to get the backing separated from the tint. Hope that makes sense.

As you are separating the back, spray the tint with the water/dawn solution. Keep it dripping wet or it will stick to anything it touches. Spray down the window also.

Then i slid the bottom center down past the cat whiskers making cuts on the sides to fit. I slid it down a good inch or so.

Start from the center and squeegee out the water. Once the water is gone, it will stick.

Use a very sharp blade and change it after each window.

As mentioned above. I do it in the garage. Close the door. A guest of wind will blow dust, pollen etc and possibly your tint. I bought a good hard rubber squeegee from napa. Start in the center and work your way out. Take your time and dont look for perfection on the first couple of windows.
