I bought a piece of trim from a seller on Facebook Marketplace.

The listing said it ships for 9.25.

I paid the asking price plus the 9.25 plus tax.

When the package arrived, the Post Office dinged me for 15.00 due to the package not being "rectangular". The seller used a triangular shaped priority mail box supplied by the PO.

WHAT A RACKET.

If you tape some cardboard to the outside of the triangular shaped box, it's now rectangular and you save 15.00.

Unfortunately the seller is not being cooperative. So I guess I'm just screwed.

Moral of the story... Only ship in a rectangular box.

Good to know.
So in the future I can use two of the PO supplied triangular shaped boxes taped together to form a rectangle!

Make sure it's not a parallelogram.

You need to add the red cardboard.

What about a round tube?
had a piece of trim shipped in those. don`t remember if charged extra for that
According to the PO a round tube is not rectangular. I had some trim shipped in a tube too. It was 19 and change vs. 9 to 12.00 that was also back in 2019

I need to learn that shippers trick, Cause I ,as the shipper always get the ding.
I shipped a pair of bucket seats to Cali for $100 . Then about a week later UPS dings me for $92 . That was a loss !
But really, don't know why they dinged you, maybe the guy didn't have an account set up. I have shipped in those tri tubes and never gotten dined. Your just LUCKY I guess !:poke:

I'm in the middle of that right now. A piece of hood trim will cost more for a PVC tube and shipping than it's worth. I wish the buyer was close. I would just hand it off to him.

The seller said that the FB Marketplace system sets the postage by weight alone.

I am sure many parcels get delivered without anyone catching the extra fee, maybe it's a new fee?

I shipped (FedEx) my converts rear glass window in 2019 from CO to NY, I made a crate of plywood, not much bigger than a flat screen TV, $300.00 and that was not due to weight just size. They said if it had been 50 lbs more it might have cost 5 bucks more.

I know the TV sellers don't pay 300.00 to ship a TV.

Also if you go into the FedEx, PO, or UPS stores you pay "retail" vs your online account rate.

Put the PVC tube in a rectangular box.

If you buy things from Amazon like window blinds you get perfect long square boxes.

PVC drain tube is lighter weight than sch 40 or 80 PVC pipe

I bought 67 dart gt rocker moldings from a guy in Canada. He strapped them to a 1x4, over wrapped them with 3 inches of cloth towels, shrink-wrapped the whole thing.

The PO left it at my door, 20 degree bend 1/3 the way down, like someone jumped on it between two other boxes.

No way to prove if it was the US or Canadian PO that did it.

Put it in the tube for safety, then tape cardboard to it to make it a rectangle. It doesn’t have to be very strong because it’s just an outer covering to save you money.

I shipped a trunk latch assbly to Canada. When the guy got it he told me nothing was in the box. I guess someone at customs need it !

i tried to by some stuff off fake book and shipping was 5.25. price of part was 22.00. seller would not ship for 5.25, said 15.00. i said no and reported them. they are not allowed to sell on fb anymore. i just priced at pair of shock brackets for an 8.75 to canada and the weight was only 6 lbs and here is what the shipping was. so who knows.

Seller most likely paid cash otherwise usps would have charged back the difference

Help me out understanding why the seller bears any responsibility. I don't get that part.

Not exactly on subject but, years ago, I bought a NOS tail light panel for a 73 Dart Sport from a seller in Canada. When it arrived at my home in NC, the panel was sticking out both ends of a torn up cardboard box, all wrapped in a big plastic bag, with a note from CanadaPost stating that the item was either received in this condition or was damaged by them. I paid extra to insure the item but it took over two months, many emails, forms filled out along with pictures sent twice just to get my money back. It looked like it had probably fallen off a pallet and was drug underneath the fork lift. I was surprised it was accepted by USPS to deliver to me.

The USPS shipped it for that. RIGHT

Not really since I had to pay 15.00 more.
The seller printed the label that market place provided. Slapped it on the wrong type of box, triangular shaped and dropped it off.

I'm sure if he had gone into the PO and bought the postage the outcome would be different.

I ran through the USPS Click and ship website. There are 2 check boxes when not using flat rate, one is any dimension longer than 12"

The other is "this package isn't a standard, rectangular box"

The price for the rectangular box is 12.65

The not rectangular is 27.65

15.00 sercharge for not being rectangular!

Same weight, same length, same width, same height just different box shape.

If the shopping in the listing was 25.00 I may not have bought the part.

Understood......but they still shipped it at the wrong price.

Yes it got form point a to point b but I could not take possession till I paid the additional postage.

Had I not paid the additional postage I suppose it would have been returned to sender.

I shipped a package that got returned to me due to a mistake in the address

I had to pay a second time for the mistake.

They've TRIED to do that to me before, but I FLAT shut their happy *** down. I told them that their acceptance of the package and their delivery of the package was them accepting a paid contract and they agreed at the initial point of payment to deliver said package to said destination. I was already PISSED because I had to ride 30 miles into town to our "local branch" in south Macon and there was a LONG line behind me. They gave me my package and I left.
