Carb spacer

Not much if it helps.

Might need to adjust the choke pulldown if so equipped.

I solved my problem by buying alcohol free gas, no other fixes, no more problem.

Phenolic spacers can be had in any size.
Will need 2 base gaskets to use.
Can create issues with linkage.
Can create hood clearance issues if you don't pick the right size.
Work well at keeping the carb cooler.
Can warp.

Edelbrock 9266 or 9265 Heat Insulator Gasket
Comes in one height.
Doesn't need base gaskets.
No issues with linkage.
No issues with hood clearance. (Drop down air-filter).
Work well at keeping the carb cooler.
Will never warp.
My go to !!!!!

I don't know if the gasket helps, or not. I'll wait for others input.
If you have the room under the hood, I would play with a spacer. I have seen them make horsepower for almost no money.
I think the spacers that seem to work (ENTIRELY dependent on engine combo) is a four hole on a single plane intake, and an open spacer on a dual plane.
Tuning for the spacer may be required.

We had one on before, not sure what happened to it, but I do know we swapped carbs so I may have tossed it and it seemed to work.
Are they reusable?
I called the local "speed shop" to see if they had one......said phenolic spacer is better. I take the half hour drive in, and he showed me spacer. I said nope, the bolt holes are too wide(I want eddy inner bolt pattern). He said nope yours has been modified or it's an AFB. I said well technically your right, an AFB is on it now, BUT I just did a carb swap.....Eddy 1405>Carter 4295S. He said "nope AFB to Eddy are different, not gonna argue with you" Those were his words...oh he then mentioned Vic Edlebrock....blah blah blah and they're shitty carbs lol. Moron, no wonder his shelves/products are covered in dust. Douche...
The Eddy gasket is like $75 up here, CRAZY.
Yep no gaskets with Eddy, but a "spacer" of any other kind requires 2 gaskets correct?

I read somewhere that someone was making a hardwood spacer…dont recall who.

If you are running an Edelbrock carb, get the Edelbrock heat insulator gasket. You will never look back.
And yes, they are reusable.

Steve, I run an Edelbrock 8724 1/2" thick wood spacer under my 1805 AVS2 as well previously under a 1405 along with a cool carb spacer on my 340.

Actually the Cool Carb spacer is right under the carb the 1/2 wood spacer is under that spacer with 3 gaskets all together and it still takes a bit of cranking to get it the engine started on a hot day after a 10 minute or so shutdown.

It's better with the Cool Carb spacer than the wood spacer alone, but the vapor lock didn't go away like Cool Carb said it would.

[1] If it is a dual plane intake, use a two hole spacer.
[2] If single plane, use an open spacer.
[3] Problem with thick 'gaskets' or a gasket stack is that they can compress too much, with the carb mounting bolts being overtightened. This can flex the carb base, & cause the t/shafts to bind.
[4] Much better to use a phenolic spacer with a thin gasket top & bottom.

An 1" HVH super sucker will make 10-15hp and the same in torque, or more. I've seen this first hand on every Mopar I've dyno'd as well as other engines that others have had on the dyno. They are definitely not a gimmick.

I've never had heat percolation Steve...if you do it might be because your timing is too retarded and their is too much fire in your heads and exhaust instead of the cylinders?
See if your headers are red in the dark.

No headers, stock manifolds, but I'll chk the timing. We ran a spacer before and it helped.

Aren't you in Ontario?
I'm in southern Manitoba; No problems here;
I'm running a 750DP on an Airgap, and just a thin paper gasket, a minimum coolant temp of 205*F, un-wrapped TTIs, but yes, I run fresh air from on top of the hood straight down. I also run a 1-piece, free-standing, 3/8 line, from the mechanical pump to carb; the filter being at the back.
Oh and
BTW; yes, running 87E10, since 1999
I did run a TQ for a while on an Excelerator, and at one time an AVS on a cast-iron; also with no problems. But we don't get a lot of says over 35*C here, and never more than maybe 4 or 5 in a row. However, this car was my DD from 99 to 2005ish
