I have been told that the stock manifolds are free flowing and there would not be a huge power difference if upgraded to headers.

Would like to hear from members who have replaced their stock manifolds and if they noticed an improvement.

All of the data I've seen says there's almost no difference between stock and HP manifolds. Headers will stomp their butt every time.

they are free flowing
they have been used in 10 second builds 11 second builds and many 12 second builds
yes headers give some gain combo dependent
ive also seen many cars with headers run slower then stock

Yeah that's true, but there are A LOT more to those builds than just manifolds.

1980 older guy 50 yrs old me 18
he bought a brand new 1969 cuda notch 340 auto
bracket raced many yrs new england dragway many trophys
tried every combo headers cams gear ratios said at the time 4.30s the best
his final combo
340 manifolds
tm5 intake
700 dp
3.55sg
spring clamps
50s street tires out back
stock cam
stock mufflers
13.1@ 103 like clock work
simple is as simple does
many wins

Yeah. I get it. Still combo specific. Headers vs manifolds with no other variables, headers win every single time. I'm not arguing the point. It's a fact.

i did say they did
that test i see 9 hp 340s to 1 5/8 no carb retune lose 12 to 15 unless you get lucky
always variables
the variables great word :)

I would like to see someone extend the runners on the stock manifolds somehow. Make them More tubular. Braze in something. Sure won’t be me.

All I can add is that I can't wait to find the spare time to get the TTI's off the Swinger and put the stock manifolds on that I bought from Steve last week. Gettin old I guess and tired of their extra noise and PITA to work around.

Yup. Old. you said it. :poke::poke:

Headers is a broad term. Short tube, mid length, long tube, tuned, tri-y. Then you get into pipe diameter and collector size/length.

Remove your stock manifolds, and replace them with long tube headers.Easy 10% increase in power and torque, when your carb is tuned to match the extra flow. The sound alone is worth the swap.

me i miss the headers but not the scraping on the chitty roads here
i liked you could see them from the side view the cheap headers

the test above got 9 hp 340s to 1 5/8 full length
the sound is worth it i miss it
9 hp@5500 is not

Oh there's no argument that manifolds are forever. I like them in that aspect.

Weld a bash plate on them.
id liked to do manifolds

There's always Extrude Home.

Think of you engine as a 4 inch air pump. With a 2 bbl carb, and single exhaust, your pump has a 2 inch inlet, and 2 in. outlet. Add a 4 bbl, dual exhaust, now have 3 in inlet, 3 in outlet. Add cam, heads, porting, hi-rise, now have a 4 in. inlet, and still have 3 inch outlet. Add pistons, stroke it, now 5 inch pump with 3 inch outlet.. hope it helps
That's a post of mine from years ago.
Manifolds put you back to small outlet, and a buncha wasted $$$ on building power, just go to a single exhaust, and get it over with.
