Lets Talk About Coffee

No worries -just trying to figure out how that comment offended you enough to give me the RED X! Have a great night.
Go easy on him, he hasnt had his coffee yet

Now, back on topic
In the kitchen i will use one scoop per two cups
I make 6 cups (3 scoops) which is only 3 mugs

Now, if we were to go upstairs into the hot tub, well that is where i make the fancy coffee

I got a phillips senseo coffee machine there
Its a single/dual cup machine that uses pods

It forces the water through under pressure so each cup has a little foam on it

As far as coffee goes, that is hands down the best cup you will ever drink

I mean literally, or I wouldda put this in the coffee shop thread. lol

So, a while back, there was a Facebook discussion goin on about coffee. Folks were talkin about different makes and this and that but one thing stuck out to me. They were sayin they used 12 tablespoons of coffee in their coffeemakers. TWELVE. TABLESPOONS. I ain't sure mine would even HOLD 12. I asked a couple of times and they confirmed it like I was somehow coffee stupid. They said "yeah, one talespoon per cup". I use 4 tablespoons per 12 cup pot and it's really strong. If I used 12 it'd pour out like syrup and I'd go broke buyin coffee. What say yall?
Well Rusty, same here, dark Columbian roast and I just put two scoops in and a couple dashes of salt, salt takes bitter taist out, an old friend told this to me because he drank coffee morning noon and night in the army.
Well I can say I learned something here tonight, I may have to try four scoops one time and see how it taist

I love mine

The only thing I don't like about it is the cost of the pods

The big box (10 packs of 48) runs about 135 buck
Which comes down to 28 cents a Pod

So, whenever I'm in the netherlands I pick up one or two boxes of store brand pods to keep the cost down

The machine itself sells for a put 250 I think, I was lucky enough to find one new for 80 bucks

Time to back off when the eyelids start twitching. I saw squiggly lines on the edge of my eye once. I have one good cup a day these days.

I just edited mu post #2.
2 level scoops for 6 cups of water (instead of 4) I like Folgers, Wal Mart Colombian (Medium Dark) and for special occasions, Jamaica Me Crazy and my new found friend Bourbon Pecan. Both of those are from a local guy that has a coffee shop, roasts, and blands his own. He has graduated to selling in a few surrounding states. By the bean, ground, or K cups. I used to sell his coffee on the tool truck.

We used to have a Senseo but it broke one morning. Needing our morning coffee we went out and got our french press out of our camping gear. We were shopping for a new machine and while we were looking at prices we basically decided we both like the taste of the french press better and decided to just stick with that.

That was years ago. My list of preferred brewing methods is french press, pour over, Senseo, Keurig, and in a distant last place drip style coffee machines. It really comes down to temperature control.

The bourbon pecan sounds good.

A couple tips for all of the coffee drinkers on here. Use two filters in instead of one-it helps remove some of the nasty from the coffee. For those that live in the city or anywhere else that doesn't have good tasting water-use bottled water. The coffee tastes so much better. I could go on and on about coffee but I don't feel like sitting here typing that much, maybe later.

Water? We have quality water here but you can smell the cholorine. I always use my Brita filter pitcher.

I prefer french roast or grind a blend fine at my local store. I make a 12 cup pot with 3 heaping scoops! :)

I buy drinking water in 50 gallon batches. The well water here is terrible, and the city water is no better. We use drinking water for the coffee, and cooking,
and the dogs go through a five gallon bottle in two days.

Someone hold on to RRR's "man card" while we resolve this.

Most coffee makers measure water in 4-6 oz "cups".

For me- "one water" needs "one scoop" of coffee.

However, most coffee scoops are actually 2 "scoops".

If I fill the reservoir to 12 "waters", I need to put in 12 scoops or the coffee is weak.

Therefore- 12 waters, 6 scoops.

I like my coffee somewhat strong, so in the coffee maker, we use a 66/33 or even 50/50 Chock Full O Nuts (full bodied) coffee to espresso mix.

I am also not a huge fan of the Keurig system, as most coffee is around 5 times the price of bulk canned coffee.

At work, however there are K cup machines everywhere and not much support for traditional brewing.

I have found a K cup coffee I like- Victor Allen "Italian Roast" that is bold enough but not harsh like some Colombian and French blends can be.
It is also the most cost effective K cup I've ever seen at roughly just under 2x the price of canned coffee.
It is available at Big Lots. It used to be available at Rural king, but they have dropped it. They still sell every other flavor but the one I like!

Last week I found a brand new Keurig "Express" machine at a thrift store, still in the box and in visually unused condition for $20.

...so I guess I'm on board.....but not anywhere near full price or 5x recurring cost.

Smart shopper

My wife gets her coffee via the mailbox every month as she is a subscription holder to Black Rifle Coffee. Me personally I have only drank it once and that was in the arctic circle just to warm up my hands. No coffee for me, never have. Coffee makes my cross hairs jiggle!

I like Dunkin Coffee. They suggest one level tablespoon per 6oz cup. Which is pretty standard on the back of most bag's
of Coffee i've seen.

I bet most folks would be shocked to do the simple price per oz math on K cups vs canned coffee.

Granted canned coffee has gone up almost 35% in the past 1.5 years.

Our Chock Full O' Nuts was $6.99 in 2020.

Now it's $10.62.
