Hi everyone, joined a few years ago, been away due to kids/grandkids.

Finally, after holding on to this 67 notchback since I was 14 years old, I’m going to get started on it, I found/bought an 1,808 mile 6.4/trans from a wide body scatpack 2021 charger.

Years ago I tubbed it ( never narrowed the 8-3/4 ), so I’m not worried about cutting this to fit this new combo, originally I wanted to do a 440.

Thought about doing 340/a518 setup, but I decided for modern power. ( I have a complete 340, but no trans )

My plans are to use ms3 gold system with Sound German Automotive trans controller, and make this my daily driver.

A lot of work ahead, but worth it, especially after waiting for so long to get something going on it.

Wife wanted/got a new car, but I don’t want to drive her old car ( 06 300 srt8 99k miles ) and didn’t want another new car….so I’ll build my own lol !

I even thought about just using the 300, I could maybe use other things from it, but it’s too nice of a car to disassemble, and not an 8 speed haha.

Wow, I just now did the math, it’s been 33 years since I’ve driven this car, in high school.

Sorry long post with no pics or other actual work….I will post more when I get to working on it.
Thanks for reading my rambling on.

John.

Sounds like a pretty big project. Would be badass once you get it done. My car sat for 30+ years before it was completed. 65 Formula S Barracuda. 65'

I would not put 870 hp to an 8 3/4.
I don’t think a stock 6.4 does 870 hp, I think perhaps you misread my post, I’m using the 6.4 and 8hp70 transmission.
I haven’t decided what rear end im using, I have the 8-3/4, but might not use it.

Good luck. Will definitely be following. You won’t regret the Hemi swap. Even though mine is a messily 2004 5.7, it sure is a lot of fun.

Thanks, I was actually looking for a 5.7, this one kept coming up on all my searching….it wasn’t much more money and for less than 2k miles couldn’t pass it up, it hasn’t had its first oil change :)

Love it! Kind of doing the same thing with my Duster, don’t want a car payment so building something similar to what I would have bought.

Keep at it, only way it will get done.

Yep, need to sell the 300 to get the k frame ordered, at least now I know what engine I’m using to get the right one.

Sounds like a cool swap. I'm a die hard distributor and carburetor guy, but I have mucho respect for those who transplant modern power into these cars. Please update often.

That may not make 800+ but I would put a Ford 9" in there instead. Tons of parts readily available, both used/ junk and aftermarket, it's stronger than an 8 3/4, and looks enough like one that most guys won't give it a second thought. And, if you want to swap gears here and there, it's a "short job"

Ok, let me rephrase that, I would not put more than 500 hp to a 8 3/4. Not even that much if it has race slicks on a glued track.

This showed up on Wednesday.

well, I learned I had to use a cable throttle body to use the ms3 gold box system, so I'll most likely go with diyhemi "quick harness" since I have the complete stock harness.
I don't want to convert to cable type.
I contacted them through their website email and have not heard back yet with some questions I had.

I have a few people coming to look at the 300 so hopefully it gets sold this weekend and I can order the rest of parts I need.... will update more when I get it.

Just curious why you don't want her old car? Not disagreeing or anything, I think your plan is a good one and I would stick with it.

the 300 just doesnt do it for me, plus, I've had the barracuda for a long time and have had it on the back burner for all these years, I hate to let it go to waste after all that time.
also probably a mid-life crisis thing :steering:

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you have to spend on the engine/trans combo? Budgeting my next project now too :)
I got this for $8600 plus $200 shipping/lift gate to my house ( from Florida ).
I found 5.7's for cheaper but not by much ( at least with low miles like I was looking for ).

it did not come with the ecu or shifter I need, still need to get those.

You will like that engine! My friend just did this swap, he installed a new 6.4 crate 392 he ordered from the Dodge dealership, it was $10k and even has a warranty. I’m not sure what transmission he went with though, it might be a GM one. The car is a total sleeper, I’ll try to find some pictures of it that I took early this summer. Car sounds good too, he ran it at the track but haven’t heard what he ran. His wife has a 67 Barracuda with a small block stroker and they were hoping to race each other :D

BTW...I have a 2018 Challenger T/A 392 and love it and that thing is way heavier than an a-body, so your car is really gonna haul the mail!

thats cool !
I'd like to keep it like a "sleeper" too I guess, I know I dont want a super loud exhaust... at least what I hear around here like straight pipes !

it will be way different than the original 273 / 904 when driving it in high school for sure !

Will be Following... ----o00o--'(_)'--o00o----
Six years into our G3 6.1/8hp70 69 Barracuda project. How time flies.
Been waiting over a year now to get into final paint...

It’s been 12 years now since my swap. It’s been a blast over 86,000 miles on it. It is totally worth it IN MY OPINION. good luck to you.

anybody know if DIYHemi is still around ?
I've emailed them some questions, never got a reply.
I see their "community forum" but seems to have mostly spam replies only....

I sold the 300 so I'm ready to get the parts I need to start rockin' on this thing !
