How to interact with a police officer(s)

-
I don't think liking to fight fires makes you a pyromaniac. You can get a rush from the job and intensity of a situation without being "1 bubble off plum" .
I liked working in Pizza joints on a busy
night when everything clicked and went right ... but Im not fat . Lol

@Ceedawg, I think I may have taken your original post to mean something it did not. After @SGBARRACUDA chimed in, and pointed out his experience as someone who actually does two of those jobs, I think I understand what you meant and I took it to mean something different.

Drive on...

You should have...

You said

"Firemen like fire, rescue people like blood and cops like authority."

I would like to think you are misinterpreting what they are saying, or they're talking big.

Firemen like fire and firemen like the rush of fighting fire are two very different things. One is an arsonist....

Rescue people "liking blood" and Rescue people being able to "handle blood" are two very different things. One is sick

Cops liking authority and cops who USE authority again, two very different things. One is an asshole.

People do things for various reasons, I never argued that. What I disagreed with is your way of stating that made it seem like all of the people in this professions, acted the way you describe...

Nice try.
Like I said you ‘ made my point’ you insist on being right, but take it anyway you want, it’s a free country.

Actually I don't insist on being right. If you'd read my last post you'd see that. You be you....

We good and I respect everything you do. Only after being pushed into the extreme corner could I do any of those professions.

Nicest state trooper was in Nevada.
Dude gave me a $90.00 speeding ticket & said you had better hurry if you want to beat the blizzard expected in a couple hours.
But my Washington state patrol are very good as well
I understood that Nevada had no speed limit unless you are going crazy fast. I drove my dart from Reno to Orlando and was cruising at 100 plus of course I never saw a trooper

Wright acted inappropriately and added complication to the situation. The offending officer had additional stress to deal with and snapped, erred. If Wright would have complied with the officers' commands, I believe he'd still be alive. I'm not saying who is right or wrong, only that Wright himself could have changed the outcome.

And I wonder what the narrative would be if the black officer made the shot.

I had a friend that was a highway patrolman. His advice was:

1) stop the car
2) turn off the engine
3) roll down the driver's side window
4) if it's dark, turn on the dome light
5) hands at 10:00 and 2:00 on the wheel
6) when the officer starts talking to you listen
7) when the officer asks you to do something comply

At the end of the day you will go home alive.

It's that word on your number 7 that just doesn't seem to work for people at times...... Having worked on a bunch of personal vehicles for Po-po and hanging out with plenty in my time I can tell you they are good people. Wired a little different maybe but solid people in society....

It's like this- don't start none and won't be none.... All of these "headliners" in the last year started the train wreck.... It's not complicated....

Anyone DUI or doing over 100 should be shot on the spot.
But that's my opinion.
I've got more people trying to kill me with their cars than cops trying to stop me and kill me with their tasers.
But that's a fact.

Officer shot in Carroll County "lucky to be alive", says family | 11alive.com
Man, I'd be dead a few 100 times if you were judge. Lol, not everyone who drinks & drives kills people or is drunk....the bac levels are low enough to get a DUI from 1.5 beers

i do think if someone get behind the wheel drunk (whatever the legal standard should be) should be treated a LOT harder
if you "accidentally" kill someone during a DUI i think you should be executed like any other murdered

you made the choice knowing full well this was a possible outcome

I was a CHP Officer and we do business entirely different than the rest of the country apparently.

Never have had any problems with any LEO in my adult life. As an immature teenager was another story. Didn’t know what showing (or having) respect for authority was at the time. Most learn early, eventually or the hard way, and in many cases sadly never. You either actually respect authority and know how to show it or you don’t respect authority yet know how to show it. Anything less is a recipe for problems. Either one is smart enough to know how it works or simply has some underlying unresolved personal issue(s). Intelligence or ignorance will decide an outcome usually.

people tell me all the time that my kids are so polite and well behaved and it got me thinking, i never, never tried to teach my kids to be polite BUT i do believe both my and my wife are both rather polite

so i have become convinced that "more is caught then taught"

know what else i noticed? most people who lack respect also lack a daddy

i dont want to make thins into a religious debate but there is a reason God designed the family with a mom and a dad
(in fact look at what happened to the kids who had "bad" fathers in the Bible, very interesting and looks a lot like what we see here)

"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Fairbanks, Officer Kristine M. | Behind the Badge Foundation

i worked with her husband on procuring depredation permits, helping them catch elk poachers and timber thieves for a few years. A couple years after the attached event, I got a ticket at a boat ramp for not recording my halibut from a different DNR officer. The weather got bad and I ran back to port as fast as I could and just forgot. The following weekend I went to a new spot I had researched. I was totally alone out there and caught a nice flatty. I just harpooned it when something hit my boat. Out of nowhere it was officer Fairbanks checking to see what I was up to (15 nautical miles out). Hadn't seen him since his wife passed, but I, still a little sore about the previous ticket, yelled out, "Im glad to see you, but i haven't filled out my tag yet!" He just laughed and helped me get it in the boat.

I never saw him again and hadn't thought about their story until this thread came up. I am so glad to hear about their daughter! Best part of my day today.

There are not enough of their stories and the sacrifices they make for us. Ayn Rand once said that the primary function of government is the protection of our individual rights. Thank you officer Fairbanks, Godspeed wherever you are and thanks to all that serve.

Better words have not been said. It is a pity that all one can do is ‘agree’
or ‘like’. Although it is likely that some creeps will disagree.

To rephrase.
Cops have to deal with liars, thieves, murderers, thugs, robbers, woman abusers, rapist, child abusers, child rapist, speeders, drunks, drug addicts, dealers, possible terrorist and dumb asses on any given day.
In general, *** holes.
Shut up and comply when interacting with them and prove you are not one.
99.9 percent of the time that is all it takes.
The cop is just doing his job.

many of which are their co-workers.

Don't chimp out, 100% chance of a good experience. Like they say if you aren't doing anything wrong act like it.
I know this from personal experience (many)
