Well so far everything's roses and unicorn dust!...
And mind you I said so far LOL... I also went to a friend's house and borrowed his timing gun and verified that my gun was saying the correct thing so I have 14 initial and 32 all in...
I don't know if it is because I haven't driven it in a couple weeks but it seems to run even better than before if that's possible..
Well yeah it runs better than before, because it did not run before.

First long freeway drive this morning and everything drove very well...
Steering felt better than ever, ran perfect, and zero oil leaks...
I couldn't be happier..,
 
I sincerely appreciate all the encouragement I got with this last hickup... It got me over the hump...

Problem I have with freeway drives is...... I have trouble hitting the brakes. I just want to follow the horizon.

You won't know if it's running good until you get it up to about 6-8,000 ft, you need to test the 4WD and transmission.:thumbsup:
 
Back up from the bottom of page 9....
I got a new af gage setup last week and it'll go in soon... Got a new front bumper in my summit basket... Still need a new front windshield and gasket.. I have the old ones in but probably won't hold back water... :rolleyes:
I still have a 440 block at the machine shop and a budget started for a stroker kit ...
I also have a line on a short shaft big block 727 I'll be rebuilding... Hopefully I'll be able to do same trading to get the transmission...

plans for the new 408 that was in it ? Powerplant for the old chevy truck ?

Since restoration is what I do for a living and coming home and then a year and a half during a complete power-coated frame off restoration on this truck I've decided to sell the five window....
I don't want to get burnt out completely on restoration... I do it because I enjoy it and doing it for work and at home becomes a little bit too much...

So true, its easy to get burnt out if you do one right after another.
Maybe consider just getting the 5 window running and moving, more money come selling time.
Plus you have to have enough parts left over from other projects to make that happen.

The five window is the cab shell the doors the fenders the hood the grill and the bed... An s10 rolling frame... Vastly too many parts and work to get a running vehicle...

That would consume too much time. Let it go.
 
Call transmission exchange today which is a local transmission supply house. They said the big block short shaft is a 72 and the really nice condition parts small block long shaft 727 I have is a 75... I opened up that 75 and got a part out of it for the small block short shaft transmission I have in the truck now. When I opened it up is very clean inside and I'm hoping to use most of its parts. We're standing the obvious output shaft...
Anyways I called on a heavy duty rebuild kit with the better clutches and steels. But more so I got the information that most parts would be interchangeable. I'll try and dive into them this weekend and maybe get the rebuild kit on monday.
Course my plan is just to rebuild the transmission for now and set it over in the corner. It may be a couple years till I get to it but at least it keeps my hands busy while I'm saving up for the stroker kit for the engine....
