Do you know anything about this 383 Duster?

Last summer we bought her from a gentleman in St. Augustine FL. We suspect the car might have a history around Jacksonville FL since the driveshaft was shortened by Drive Line Service on Commonwealth Ave there. Current color is very recent dark purple but was red before that and light green originally with a 318. Engine is 383 with 727 manual valve body trans and 489 SG. Car has a fuel cell, battery in trunk and frame connectors. The rocker arms are Crane gold rollers and the headers are Hooker fender fender exists. We would like technical info (like what converter, compression ratio and cam specs (it has a purple shaft). Any race history, leads to former owners and e.t. info would be appreciated. Thanks for responding, Ragnar in Iceland.

Sorry, can’t help with the car’s history, but the first thing I would do is get that fuel line routed away from the headers. Or the car might BE history!

Your concern is noted and it is on the to do list. However, the photo is a bit deceiving; since it seems the line is closer to the pipes than it actually is.

Agreed! Nice project!

Also agree with SSG_CARG.

Fuel line is waaay too close. Also, the brake lines are too close to the headers.

Thats the fun though, making it your own.

Good luck with your new ride!!

It seems vaguely familiar like maybe I've seen it on here before. Cool car!

What do you think Ragnar, is it a match ?

( st Augustin is about 45 minutes southeast of Jacksonville)

You are correct. We knew about this post since it is from the seller we bought the Duster from. We are seeking info about the history before the seller got the car. He did not assemble the engine, nor do any of the specific work regarding turning the car into a race car. I also want to clarify that we do not have buyers remorse, we are only curious about the Duster´s history and if available any e.t. numbers if drag raced.

Since you know who sold you the car, the easiest way to contact him through the board is ether a PM to start a conversation or you can give him a mention in this post like this;

@jacko241

This is now going to notify him he was mentioned in a post.
He was here on Friday.

Of course I asked these questions when buying the car but got limited answers. That is why I am asking around now.

That’s directed towards me?
i think he was trying to explain to you that the guy whom he bought the car from was very little help
if you look at jacko's record here FABO, you will see why
(i'll give you a hint, i dont believe he has got any posts at all, outside of one particular section of our forum)

Diymirage; your explanation is absolutely right. But I also want to add that our transaction and communication with the seller, was otherwise very good.

So I buy a car from a young kid who advertised it on Craigslist that got the car in a trade and hardly knew how to start it, and it makes me bad guy for not knowing the history?
I told Ragnar all I knew about the car, and he decided to buy it. It sounds like he is reaching out to see if any of you Mopar gods have any additional knowledge. Google me and although I am not a Mopar expert, I think you
will find I know a little bit about automobiles. :)

The seller is right. And I want to emphasise again: I am just interested in the Duster´s past story. I have no buyer´s remorse. I am not doing this to dig up any information to use against the seller. My communication with the seller was excellent. He was honest and he helpful in many ways. Selling a car overseas, like he did, is something not for the faint of heart, both for the buyer and the seller.

Ragnar in Iceland.
