So I picked up a Saginaw pump set up for my 68 340 Dart. It's the correct set up from a 68 273 Model. My current TRW pump fits fine but is no good. The steel return hose on the Saginaw pump hits the corner of the head. Has anyone out there ground the corner down to get it to work? Looks like it's just extra meat left there by design. Sorry I didn't take a pic but felt if someone here had this issue they would understand what I'm talking about.

I have the same issue with the Saginaw pump on my 440 with Trickflow 240 heads. I ran into the problem when I converted to the serpentine setup. The return line nipple barely clears the edge of the head. I have not clearanced the edge of the head but certainly could if I needed to pull the pump off again. Does not look like I would need to take a lot of meat off of the head to resolve this. With the hose on the nipple it is right against the head.

Would this pump return line orientation fix your problem?

I'm thinking Borgeson has a solution to this.

(Also a very credible member on here)

They follow this site closely so a response from them may come shortly.

Cheers!

That is the current orientation of the return line nipple I am running. It is a Borgeson pump.

I use Saginaw pumps on both my 360 small block and 440 big block and have no issues with clearance. Granted I use iron heads.. do the aluminum heads take up that much more real estate?

Not sure. I have not used iron heads for a long time so don't recall. I do know that the serpentine setup I have has the PS pump filler neck (pointed toward the passenger side) at an angle when the belt is tight. Believe the V belt setup had the PS filler neck almost level when things were tight. That difference may play into this scenario.

I don't think so. It may make is worse. I'll take a pic tonight and post tomorrow. I started grinding last night but not quite there yet. At least the pump will cover my sin.

Bergman Auto Craft customized the return line on my Saginaw pump when I bought my Borgeson kit from them. I have Edelbrock heads which are much larger then iron heads and I did not want to grind on my aluminum heads. At first Bergman told me to smash return tube down and grind on head and when I said I did not want to do that he moved the return line for me free of charge. Iron heads are smaller profile and don't have the return line clearance problem.

Bergman Auto Craft will work with you to get your Borgeson kit setup for your specific car. Pullys, motor mounts, headers, heads, type of K Frame ect are all factors that affects what is needed to get a Borgeson PS kit to fit. Bergman Auto Craft understands all those details variances which is not trivial

I have the Eddies on my 360, with a factory big-sector steering box.
I ditched the factory Federal pump for a Saginaw. In my collection of many Saginaws, I found one that had the return hose clocked in a direction it needed to go. IIRC, it was off a slanty car, cuz I had to take the brackets off, and swap to 318 brackets. that worked perfect on the return line. But in my collection of pressure hoses, I had nothing that would just bolt on.
So, I went to my favorite jobber, who had a wall of hoses , and sure enough he had something that fit perfectly!
Had I wanted to, I already had both required ends, but on different hoses! If the jobber would not have come thru for me, I could have just had the local Ag-shop marry those ends, with a new hydraulic pressure hose.

I do have an unknown condition Saginaw kicking around. I will see if I can find it to see what return location it has.
